Powering the energy transition
About us
e-Zinc is a purpose-driven energy storage solutions company based in Toronto, Canada, that is winning domestic and international awards and stacking world-class investors and advisors. Our unique zinc-based long-duration energy storage technology is enabling a reliable transition away from fossil fuel powered energy sources and providing the platform for the world’s energy markets to be fully powered by renewable energy. By utilizing zinc as the base metal in our technology, we deliver a product that not only holds energy for multiple days, but can safely and reliably perform in the world’s harshest environments. In addition, zinc is light on impact to the planet, readily available, and inexpensive because of its abundance, ubiquity, and recyclability. At e-Zinc, we are dedicated to a zero-carbon future – a future to look forward to, with thriving nature and affordable, clean and reliable energy for all.

Great getting to participate in two of the best sessions at Energy Storage Summit in Dallas! Long duration energy storage was front and center of many discussions. Notable moments: ➡️ It is INSPIRING to see more amazing women leading in this industry! Karen Van Holten - LL.M., Treaty Oak Clean Energy’s Michelle Dueitt, and Iola Hughes of Rho Motion are just a few! ➡️ Economic growth and energy security are key priorities across global markets. Justin Rangooni moderated New Market Opportunities in Canada where we discussed Ontario’s future procurement of storage. ➡️ Will McNamara, PMP from Sandia National Laboratories led the session, A New Era for Long Duration Technologies sharing how LDES can advance several of this administration’s guiding principles. 💥Had the opportunity to watch my new colleague, Gabriel Murtaugh, take the stage in his new role with Hydrostor! ➡️ Had the privilege of moderating the panel on Assessing the Market Use-Cases for Long Duration with an incredible group including Robert Bernard of Echogen Power Systems, Brett Simon of e-Zinc, Matthew Walz of Invinity Energy Systems, David Martin of Energy Dome and Will McNamara, PMP of Sandia National Laboratories. The path can be challenging, because what we do is hard, but truly rewarding when we do it together! #ldes #energystorage

📰 Building Better is a newsletter about Canadian business leaders tackling hard problems with positive impact, and the very first interview is with e-Zinc CEO James Larsen! 💬 Check out their conversation which addresses - why batteries for the #energytransition? - what makes e-Zinc's long duration energy storage different? - building a business in #Canada - and shares advice for young #innovators. Thanks Sara Chiarotto O'Brien for helping to share #LDES news.
Back in January, I had the chance to speak with James Larsen for my newsletter, Building Better (https://lnkd.in/eXz8Jz4C). James is the CEO of e-Zinc, a long-duration energy storage company powering the clean energy transition. We talked about what it will take to achieve mass deployment of renewable energy, and why some of the best opportunities in his career have come from volunteering. It was a great conversation, and today I’m excited to share James’ story in the first installment of Building Better! You can check it out below! https://lnkd.in/eCGqq59e

Did you read? Sharing energy transition and energy storage insights from e-Zinc's business development manager David Bobyn 👇👇
I had a fantastic time last week on the Canadian Southern California Roadshow, engaging with utilities, municipalities, developers, and C&I customers alongside leading Canadian cleantech companies. A huge thank you to Blair Bobyk and Maricela Macias, MBA from the Consulate General of Canada in Los Angeles | Consulat général du Canada à Los Angeles for their support in bringing together such a strong network. From San Diego Gas & Electric, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, City of Irvine, to County of Orange, OC Waste & Recycling it was outstanding to engage with so many potential partners. A few of my key takeaways: - Safety is a Top Priority – Given recent events in Southern California (i.e., Moss Landing Fire, and the devastating L.A. wildfires) safety is a top priority for customers, governments, and community members. Early education and engagement paired with alternative safer technologies will be key to deployment. Organizations like the California Energy Storage Alliance are having active conversations with stakeholders on safety and the best course of action. - California’s Energy Transition – Despite state level budget challenges and federal uncertainty, the California Energy Commission and entire state is full steam ahead on storage investments to meet their ambitious target. - Market Demand for Multi-Day Storage – Organizations are actively exploring 3+ day backup solutions (e.g., County of Orange, OC Waste & Recycling) that are emission free to meet their decarbonization targets while maintaining resilient power. Appreciate the thought-provoking discussions and looking forward to following up on potential collaborations! AlumaPower Corporation BluWave-ai CORE Renewable Energy Inc.
