🏆Congratulations to Associated Engineering on winning Consulting Engineers of Alberta’s Award of Excellence for: Coast to Coast: Understanding Infrastructure Maintenance Needs for Parks Canada. 🎉 As a subconsultant for this project, Dillon created a program to evaluate around 650 assets in national parks across Canada, from British Columbia to Newfoundland, and from sea level to mountain peaks. Teams of experts were sent to 27 Parks Canada locations, including some of the most remote and environmentally sensitive areas, to assess the assets. They gathered data on over 10,000 component conditions and made over 3,000 improvement suggestions. Dillon's specialists in code compliance and accessibility used this information, along with thousands of photos, to develop plans for asset improvements that meet code standards. Associated Engineering then took this data, applied cost estimates and timelines to the recommended maintenance activities, resulting in a 20-year plan for asset maintenance, helping Parks Canada prepare for future budget and resource needs. ♻️ Across Ontario and Canada, the rise in medium and high-density multi-residential buildings is reshaping our urban landscapes. But with this growth comes the challenge of designing effective waste collection systems for garbage, recycling, and organics. Dillon Consulting Limited, commissioned by the Continuous Improvement Fund, led a 2024 study to tackle these challenges head-on. Their research highlighted the urgent need for standardized, comprehensive guidelines to enhance waste diversion in high-density residential areas. Legislative amendments, policy enhancements, and detailed municipal guidelines are crucial for improving waste diversion rates and fostering sustainable urban communities. When convenience is prioritized, recycling and waste diversion performance can soar.
