Tina Mathas is speaking at the mesh conference (April 29–30 in Calgary), and she’s not there to play it safe. Her session will unpack why good ideas often lose steam inside organizations — not because they lack creativity, but because they get lost in translation between teams, roles, and incentives. At mesh, Mathas’ session ends with something most conferences avoid: disagreement. She’ll lead a live debate on what really qualifies as innovation in a corporate setting. Some will argue that improving existing systems counts. Others, like Mathas, draw the line at transformation. “The reason why I’m having the debate at the end is I could be wrong,” she says. “Some people have other viewpoints.” Expect a candid, no-fluff discussion. Audience questions are welcome. The goal isn’t consensus — it’s clarity. 🔴 Read more about what Tina will share at mesh here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gwTezCbZ 🔴 Digital Journal is the official media partner for the mesh conference. “We used to have a fortress. Now there’s no fortress.” That’s how Romanus Prabhu Raymond, Director of Technology at ManageEngine, describes the shift cybersecurity leaders are grappling with today. In the age of remote work, IoT, and always-on cloud services, endpoints aren’t just laptops and desktops. They’re mobile, scattered, and often invisible. That’s why Raymond is urging CIOs to rethink their defence strategy — not just with new tools, but with new philosophies. Ahead of his session at the CIO Association of Canada's Peer Forum Conference next month, we spoke with Raymond about: • Why Zero Trust isn’t just a framework—it’s a mindset • How AI, ML, and LLMs are reshaping the security landscape (for defenders and attackers) • What every CIO should prioritize this quarter to improve resilience • Why strong leaders don’t just invest in software—they invest in people Read the full story by David Potter on Digital Journal: https://lnkd.in/gAFUitj3 -- 🔴 Want more innovation news in your inbox? Digital Journal is proud to be the official media partner for ScaleUP Week 2025. Hosted in Calgary and online from June 2–5, this national platform will put the spotlight on the leaders, companies, and conditions that help turn early success into sustained growth. “Canada has everything it needs to become a global leader in scale,” says Dr. Simon Raby, Ph.D., professor at Mount Royal University and founder of ScaleUP Week. “We’re seeing more momentum than ever behind the idea that scaling matters — and ScaleUP Week brings together the people, insights, and tools needed to turn potential into performance.” Each day of the four-day event focuses on a different piece of the scaleup puzzle: ▪️ The state of Canadian scaleup ecosystems, with regional working sessions across the West. ▪️ Hands-on masterclasses for leaders of growing companies. ▪️ A marketplace for high-growth firms to connect with advisors and investors. ▪️ A national gala celebrating Canada’s top scaleup stories. As media partner, Digital Journal will feature interviews, research insights, and founder perspectives in the lead-up to ScaleUP Week 2025, and on-site coverage throughout the event. What kind of mindset shows up in your decision-making room — abundance or scarcity? In her latest Insight Forum column for Digital Journal, Roselle M. Gonsalves, PhD challenges leaders to pay attention to how we respond to new ideas — especially when they’re unfamiliar, uncomfortable, or untested. In one instance, Gonsalves describes a team presenting a well-researched equity initiative, only to have leadership respond with skepticism instead of curiosity or dialogue. “It wasn’t the pushback that stung — scrutiny is part of the process — but the lack of imagination,” she writes. “The inability to see possibility and the way the conversation immediately narrowed.” From inclusion to innovation, Roselle argues that mindset isn’t abstract, it's operational. Scarcity closes doors under the guise of rigour, she says. Abundance opens them with curiosity, even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed. What happens when AI stops waiting for instructions? According to a new KPMG Canada survey, Canadian execs are already putting agentic AI to work. Among the 252 leaders polled, 27% said their organization has already deployed it. "Agentic AI is a nascent technology, but it's the most transformative AI we've ever seen in human history to date," says Stephanie Terrill, Canadian managing partner for digital and transformation at KPMG in Canada. The business case is clear: 63% expect a profit boost, 58% expect lower operating costs — and 82% say it will help reduce headcount. But as KPMG’s AI lead Gary Filan points out, the bigger question is how leaders restructure around the tech. “There are ways to strategically reorganize the workforce around AI to optimize headcount and create a flexible, technology-enabled workforce for the future,” Filan says. From issuing refunds to coordinating workflows across entire functions, these AI agents have moved beyond answering questions and are taking action. When disruption clears the ground, most leaders focus on what to plant next. But what if the real problem is the soil itself? At the mesh conference (April 29-30, 2025 in Calgary), Margo Purcell will challenge leaders to stop chasing five-step solutions and start asking harder questions about their teams, their culture, and the hidden conditions shaping innovation. “Training is what you do with animals,” says Purcell who is the CEO of InceptionU Ltd. “We’ve been conditioned to turn off our curiosity and follow instructions. But when the world shifts, that model breaks.” Her session won’t offer neat answers. It will offer a lens to examine what your organization actually needs — and you'll get a readiness assessment to take back with you to your company. 🔴 Read more about what Margo will share at mesh here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gHHX7PS8 🔴 Want more innovation news in your inbox?
