🎙️ If you listened to CBC Kelowna, Vancouver, or Victoria last week, you may have caught interviews with our VP of Global Marketing, Maya Lange, talking about the impacts of tariffs on domestic and international travel. ▶️ Watch Maya's interview with CBC Vancouver's Gloria Macarenko: https://lnkd.in/gXnjKD9S In the interviews, Maya shared that we are seeing increased interest in travel to BC from Canadians and International travellers, in contrast to a decrease of bookings from the US. Despite this, sentiment remains positive from our key markets in the US and travel intent from the US to Canada is overall steady or increasing. In addition to sharing some destination recommendations across the province for all kinds of travellers, Maya also shared an encouraging observation from a recent tourism trade trip to key markets in Europe. 💬 "The whole world dreams of what we have here in BC. They want to see nature. They want to see our ten mountain ranges and our larger than life wildlife. The salmon runs that we have in this province. The experiences, unique experiences that we have that we might take for granted, the whole world dreams about." #BCTourismCounts #Tariffs #ExploreBC Indigenous Tourism BC (ITBC) Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Tourism Kootenay Rockies Tourism Association Northern BC Tourism Association Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) Vancouver, Coast & Mountains Tourism Region 4VI Social Enterprise Group

🌊 This week, April 14-20 is Tsunami Preparedness Week. Many areas along the coast of BC are at risk of tsunamis and people living in, or visiting, these areas are encouraged to be prepared and know what to do in case of an emergency. ⚠️ During Tsunami Preparedness Week, some coastal communities are hosting High Ground Hikes, where people can practise reaching their tsunami safe zone. Knowing where higher ground is and how to get there quickly is an important part of tsunami preparedness, and people may not need to go far to reach a safe area. If you are visiting an area with higher tsunami risk, research evacuation routes and share your travel plans with friends and family. ➡️ Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gYW6trcV #BCTourismCounts #EmergencyPreparedness #TsunamiPreparedness

🎉👥 In celebration of Tourism Week 2025, we're taking a moment to shine the spotlight on the people who power tourism and share the stories of some of our Destination BC team members who work behind the scenes to support our thriving tourism industry in BC. 👋 Vidia Panna, Travel Media Relations Specialist at Destination BC. ❓ What tourism jobs have you had? 💬 "Prior to joining Destination BC, I worked for Switzerland Tourism out of Indonesia. I was responsible for all travel media and travel trade activities in the Indonesian market." ❓ What do you love about working in tourism? 💬 "Through tourism, I’m exposed to a wealth of knowledge and new perspectives. Tourism is more than just travelling from place to place—it’s uncovering history, experiencing different cultures, learning about wildlife… I meet people who have passions in different areas, like an adventure writer who used to be a geologist, a travel writer who’s also a professional chef, and a ski enthusiast who’s an environmental scientist. This job is always exciting and multi-faceted. There are always things to learn. " ❓ What’s your most memorable BC travel moment? 💬 "I come from the tropics, so winter sports are new to me. Last winter, I had my first ski lesson at SilverStar Mountain Resort. It was magical. You don’t get to experience many firsts in your life as an adult, but I experienced my first ski run and it was thrilling. I returned to SilverStar this winter and skied the green run—it was really exciting." 📖 Read more stories of the people behind tourism in BC: https://lnkd.in/gs2piHHe 🧰 Join in the Tourism Week celebrations with resources and information from our BC Tourism Week 2025 Toolkit: https://lnkd.in/ghMR_PBJ #BCTourismCounts #TourismWeek2025 #PoweredByTourism #PeopleInTourism

🎉👥 In celebration of Tourism Week 2025, we're taking a moment to shine the spotlight on the people who power tourism and share the stories of some of our Destination BC team members who work behind the scenes to support our thriving tourism industry in BC. 👋 Meet Stephanie Fielden, Market Development Manager at Destination BC. ❓ What tourism jobs have you had? 💬 "In 1999, I started my tourism career at Tourism Whistler as part of the Market Development team. Six years later, I accepted a similar role at Tourism Vancouver (now Destination Vancouver). In 2007, I moved to Destination BC and have been here ever since." ❓ What do you love about working in tourism? 💬 "I love that every day in this industry is different—there’s always something new to learn. Our strategies, or the way we approach markets, can rapidly shift based on global events or other factors. I also enjoy the relationships the industry facilitates. In addition to the Destination BC team, who are my second family, I’ve developed deep and meaningful relationships with people around the world. Some of these connections span decades!" ❓ What’s your most memorable BC travel moment? 💬 "My dad was from #Trail, and I spent every childhood summer at Christina Lake. I still go every summer with my family. Swimming, watching my kids jump off the dock, visiting the ice cream shop, biking, golfing, pickleball, road trips throughout the Kootenays… we just take it all in. It’s not a moment, exactly—it’s a lifetime of moments, in a place that is very special to me." 📖 Read more stories of the people behind tourism in BC: https://lnkd.in/gs2piHHe 🧰 Join in the Tourism Week celebrations with resources and information from our BC Tourism Week 2025 Toolkit: https://lnkd.in/ghMR_PBJ #BCTourismCounts #TourismWeek2025 #PoweredByTourism #PeopleInTourism
