The Canadian Mining Games are able every year to provide scholarships to participants with the support of the Canadian Mineral Industry Education Foundation ("CMIEF"). Since 1964, the CMIEF is proud to be, by far, the largest undergraduate scholarship programme in Canada geared towards students considering a career in the mining industry. The CMIEF is now accepting scholarship applications. Discover, Develop | Optimize, Operate | Developing Future Leaders | Developing Mining Engineers Coming into its 33rd year, the Canadian Mining Games have proven to be a strong part of the Canadian mining history. The Games have annually provided an opportunity for students across Canada to showcase their mining knowledge, problem-solving and adaptive capabilities through a variety of challenges. Sponsors are able to create and develop individual events and interact directly with students during competitions to evaluate their responses to new and challenging situations. In addition to the friendly competition, both students and industry representatives are given the chance to expand their network through banquets and the career fair.

Friday's Banquet was dedicated to 2 of our platinum sponsors: Vale Base Metals and Suncor. We had the chance to welcome two speakers that together combine 35 years of experience in the industry. Francois Demers from Vale Base Metals is an accomplished mining executive with over 20 years of experience in the industry. He currently acts as the Director of Ontario Mines at Vale Base Metals, overseeing operations across six mines and various pits and quarries. Frank holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining from Laurentian University and is pursuing an MBA. He is also actively involved in industry associations and community activities and he is the current chair of the Board of the Ontario Mining Association – OMA. Brayden Kijewski from Suncor is the General Manager Extraction and Tailings Operations. He hold his mining engineering degree from the University of Alberta and has close to 15 years of experience in the industry, all of which he spent in various roles at Syncrude and Suncor.
