  • Designing a Better Tomorrow means innovating and advocating for clean energy. The University of Victoria’s Accelerating Community Energy Transformation (ACET) is doing just that by clearing the path and empowering communities. The ACET headquarters project transformed their existing space into a sophisticated and fully accessible workplace. Equipped with state-of-the-art audio-visual technologies and designed for hybrid work, this space fosters collaboration, adaptability, and innovation. Along with the team at Zeidler Architecture, AES Jeff Halpenny Michael Patterson and many talented others, together we’re Designing a Better Tomorrow by supporting ACET in their vision of co-creating resilient clean energy solutions that strengthen local autonomy and create new economic opportunities.   Thanks for the beautiful photos University of Victoria Photography! #DesigningABetterTomorrow #ElectricalEngineering #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #CommunityInnovation #EnergyTransformation #FutureOfEnergy #ACET

Finally able to share what a tremendous group of folks have been working away at for 16 months! News Release     Building a Stronger Kelowna: initial plans, development permit coming for the redevelopment of Parkinson Recreation Centre    Fueled by curiosity and the pursuit of excellence, the project team working on the Redevelopment of Parkinson Recreation Centre worked to plan a state-of-the-art recreation facility and campus that meets the needs of Kelowna residents and reflects the Okanagan region.    “Major milestones have been reached as part of the Building a Stronger Kelowna initiative, specific to the Redevelopment of Parkinson Recreation Centre with initial plans agreed upon by all partners and a Form and Character Development Permit being submitted,” said Derek Edstrom, Divisional Director, Partnerships and Investments. “These milestones bring residents closer to a vibrant, legacy facility and park, sparking active, creative opportunities that enhance quality of life for the entire community.”     Council will receive an update on Monday, March 10 about the initial plans for the Redevelopment of Parkinson Recreation Centre and the Form and Character Development Permit that will be submitted. These project deliverables start the building of a vibrant new facility and park, rich in public amenities and gathering spaces.     These milestones are the culmination of the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) process, ensuring that the Redevelopment of Parkinson Recreation Centre has been designed within budget and meets the needs of Kelowna residents. The Redeveloped Parkinson Recreation Centre will offer amenities designed to elevate programming, support health and wellness, enable rehabilitation, and support local athletes.     When complete the facility will have 5 times more athletic space, 2.5 times more aquatic space, and 3 times as many programs. Amenities include a 25 metre 10 lane pool, leisure pool, hot tub, cold plunge, steam room, sauna, three full-sized gyms, fitness centre, a running/walking track, fitness studios, multi-purpose rooms, food services and the ORL express library. As well as a dedicated childcare space. The 19.4-hectare park, the equivalent of 20 football fields, will include six sports fields, 24 pickleball courts, connections to the Apple Bowl and Mill Creek, park space, and access to the Okanagan Rail Trail.    The Redevelopment of Parkinson Recreation Centre has been a significant priority for the City of Kelowna for over a decade. The Indoor Recreation Facilities Strategy identified this project as a crucial investment to address the wellness needs of the community. In 2023, Council approved funding for the planning, design, and construction under the Building a Stronger Kelowna initiative, which includes the Redevelopment of Parkinson Recreation Centre, all-ages activity centres in Mission and Glenmore, and sports fields in Rutland Recreation park. For more information, visit kelowna.ca/strongerkelowna

  • Congratulations to Jordan Klear, one of our newest Associates at AES! This promotion is a testament to his dedication and his belief in the power of teamwork to drive success. Jordan is certain the strength of AES has always been in the synergy of our team. He believes the innovation within our organization comes from listening to all the voices around us and utilizing everyone’s unique skillset to create positive results. “Right now, I can hear four different conversations in the office of individuals working together to come up with solutions to complex challenges”. Jordan has been a driving force behind many of our successful projects, with one of his favourites being Ocean Front Village in Courtenay, BC. Starting in 2019, Jordan led the full electrical design, construction administration and site reviews, all the way to project completion in 2022. A memorable aspect was the main lobby lighting. Drawing inspiration from the location (where the Puntledge River meets the ocean), Jordan’s design features clusters of glass pendants resembling fishing buoys, an idea that aligned beautifully with the client’s vision. For Jordan, the understanding that design isn’t just about responding to the present moment, but about future-proofing projects, is crucial. Designing a Better Tomorrow means we must ensure our designs remain relevant and effective as technologies evolve and client needs shift. Outside of AES, Jordan is a cooking enthusiast, constantly experimenting with new recipes and cuisines from around the world. From crafting flavorful Indian curries to perfecting southern BBQ, Jordan has recently taken his cooking hobby to the next level with a smoker. His favourite weekends are spent preparing elaborate meals and hosting family and friends to share. Congratulations once again, Jordan! Here’s to many more milestones ahead! #DesigningABetterTomorrow #Innovation #Sustainability #Leadership #Teamwork

  • We are thrilled to announce the promotion of Kevin S. to Associate at AES! A key player on our team, Kevin consistently contributes his expertise and passion on a variety of projects. Choosing a favourite though was tough as he feels privileged to be part of so many awesome AES projects. However, one that does stand out is the new PNE Amphitheatre. This project is an exciting challenge that blends performance lighting, architectural aesthetics, and complex electrical design. Kevin is collaborating with an incredible design team to create an immersive experience that will captivate audiences for years to come. Seeing all the elements come together for this landmark venue is a true highlight of his career. Outside of work, Kevin’s journey recently took on an exciting new chapter as he became a dad! Balancing family life with his professional accomplishments has given him a fresh perspective on time management, patience, and the importance of maintaining a healthy work-life balance. Looking ahead, Kevin is excited to embrace forward-thinking strategies as AES continues to integrate technologies such as AI into processes to further enhance operational efficiency. On a personal level, he believes "Designing a Better Tomorrow" also emphasizes continuous personal growth and self-improvement. “It’s about investing in yourself today to build a brighter, more fulfilling future”. Congratulations again, Kevin!
