About us
XR4Europe is a pan-European association dedicated to uniting XR professionals, organisations, and initiatives across the continent. Our members include national and regional associations, universities and research institutions, companies large and small, entrepreneurs and creators. XR4Europe traces its roots back to the EU-funded XR4ALL project, which ran from December 2018 to August 2020, after which XR4Europe was established as a non-profit association based in Brussels. Presently, XR4Europe is a partner in the Horizon Europe projects XR4HUMAN and OPENVERSE, both of which have been designated as Coordination and Support Actions (CSAs) for the EU’s Initiative on Virtual Worlds and the future Virtual Worlds Partnership.

XR4Europe is proud to be supporting the next edition of the XR Creator Con (XRCC), this June 25 - 29 in Berlin, as a media partner ! Hackathons are important channels for the curious and the enthusiast to become professionals, for students to network and build skills, and for designers and developers to collaboratively experiment with new tools and techniques. In short, the foundation for the future of XR and virtual worlds in Europe is built at hackathons. XRCC is Europe’s most prominent in-person XR Hackathon, bringing together 200+ of the top XR creators from across the world. If you're able to come to Berlin in late June, the creativity and ingenuity you'll find there will be worth the effort. If you’re an XR creator - designer, developer, artist, researcher, hobbyist - register soon as there are a limited number of seats (link in the comments). The prize pool is $15,000. Our thanks go to Dinesh Punni and the immersive insiders team for once again organising this event and the sponsors whose support makes it happen. #XRCC25

What guides ethical XR? Join XR4Europe’s Michael Barngrover on 15 April at 15:00 CET as he hosts Shereen Cox, PhD (University of Oslo) and Dr Lene Aarvelta Hagen (University of South-Eastern Norway) for a live conversation on the XR4Human Project's "XR Code of Conduct". In this session, our speakers will unpack the foundational principles that shape the document and reflect on the difference between high-level values and concrete articles. What is the role of a Code of Conduct in a rapidly evolving, global XR ecosystem — and who is it for? This will be the first in a series of three live discussions illuminating the issues and processes behind the drafting of the XR Code of Conduct, which aims to support designers and developers as they make decisions that impact the users of virtual worlds. Tomorrow, 11 April 2025, at the The University of Bonn, Germany, Oliver Schreer (Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute HHI) will present how volumetric video technology helps preserve the memories of Holocaust survivors through VR. Hosted by the Working Groups Klein and Hullin, this talk will explore how volumetric video, through the creation of highly realistic 3D reconstructions of people, makes it possible to meet and interact with Holocaust survivors in Virtual Reality. Dr. Schreer will guide attendees through the technology, production workflow, and real-life applications in Holocaust memorial projects while also addressing ethical issues on why to use XR for this kind of project.
