“Nature is not a nice-to-have, but a must-have.” On today’s Deep Seed podcast, Oliver Dauert joins us to explore why protecting #biodiversity is essential to human survival, food security, and #climateresilience. We’ll dive into the vital role biodiversity plays in #regenerativeagriculture. Changing how we farm means reimagining our relationship with nature — it’s the path to a more resilient and regenerative agriculture. Key takeaways from this conversation: 🦟 Pollinators, insects, and even ‘pests’ all play key roles in maintaining balance — but they’re disappearing. In some regions, they’re being shipped in by truck because local ecosystems are so degraded. 🌱 Regenerative farms that foster biodiversity see improved water retention, fewer pests, and greater productivity. 🌍 We’ve already lost 70% of biodiversity on land, mainly due to agriculture. 1 million species are at risk of extinction in the coming decades. 🐄 Only 3% of the mammal biomass on Earth is wild — the rest is humans and our livestock. 🧫 Soil microbes and fungal networks are essential allies in building fertility and resilience. Regenerative agriculture for food system resilience & climate action
About us
Soil Capital is a mission-driven company with long expertise in regenerative agriculture and spearheading the low-carbon transition of farms. It was founded on the core belief that farmers should be rewarded and fairly compensated for their key role in tackling the ecological crisis. Operating internationally, Soil Capital’s ambition is to accompany farmers in the transition of 1 million hectares to more profitable and regenerative agriculture by 2025. In 2019, Soil Capital launched Europe’s first certified carbon payment programme to accelerate the adoption of regenerative practices. It now counts over 1,600 farmers in its ranks, spread across France, Belgium and the UK. We value farmers’ reduced carbon emissions and/or increased soil carbon storage on the carbon voluntary markets through high-integrity certification. Our carbon certification programme unlocks regenerative and resilient food supply chains, by connecting farmers with food & fiber companies committed to rebalancing our agriculture system. We also support companies that want to contribute to support regenerative farming as part of their global net zero initiatives.

📢 Exciting news! We are proud to be featured in SustainCERT’s latest industry report, tackling the massive finance gap for climate action.🌱 Entitled "Financing decarbonization in Food and Agriculture Value Chains", the report dives into key Scope 3 strategies, innovative solutions, and impactful collaborations that drive the transition toward more sustainable practices. Given that the #AgFood sector is one of the largest contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, these insights are more relevant than ever. The food and agriculture sector contributes one-third of global emissions yet receives only 5% of total climate finance – leaving a finance gap in the hundreds of billions to a trillion dollars. 💡 In the "Value Chain Collaboration - Collaboration strategies" section, see how our collaboration with Royal Canin is supporting farmers in their supply chain. By implementing robust MRV system and helping farmers transitioning towards #RegenerativeAgriculture, results can speak for themselves and will continue to thrive. Curious to learn more?
