    PwC Belgium supported Febelfin Connect, where industry leaders gathered to discuss The Crucial Role of the Financial Sector in Navigating Economic and Security Challenges. The event opened with Karel Baert, CEO of Febelfin, emphasising the importance of collective action during uncertain times. He highlighted Europe’s role in strengthening its economic and technological independence and urged the creation of a savings and investment union to boost European competitiveness. Jan Jambon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Pensions, underlined the financial sector’s pivotal role in addressing current economic and security challenges. Benedikt Franke, CEO of the Munich Security Conference, sparked a call to action, inviting the sector to collaborate on geopolitical security issues, stressing the need for innovation and preparedness. A stimulating panel discussion, with Pierre Wunsch, Governor of the Banque nationale de Belgique, and Valérie Urbain, CEO of Euroclear, explored the economic landscape, stressing the importance of making informed choices and prioritising effectively amidst geopolitical tensions. In his closing remarks, Michael Anseeuw, Chairman of Febelfin, reinforced several key points: 1️⃣ Security is an investment, not a cost—highlighting that instability has direct economic consequences, and investing in security yields long-term returns. 2️⃣ The financial sector is ready to act—the sector is prepared to invest in sustainability, digital innovation, and defense to drive economic growth. 3️⃣The financial sector needs the right tools—stable regulations, a true savings and investment union, and constructive tax policies—to take on the role it should play in the economy. As the financial landscape evolves, PwC remains committed to working alongside industry leaders to drive meaningful change.
