📢 New publication alert – and it’s a big one! Earlier this year our Societal Resilience Cluster published joined policy recommendations on Improving Engagement and Communication among Citizens and Authorities. The recommendations stemmed from over 5-years of research from 9 research projects under the Horizon EU funding programmes for Disaster Resilient Societies: 👉 https://lnkd.in/gWW-eVs3 The projects have now come together to outline the conceptual underpinnings for the recommendations in a recent article: Strengthening all-of-society approaches for disaster resilient societies through competency building: A European research agenda: 👉 https://lnkd.in/gUy77zx5 The paper demonstrates how European research involving diverse groups of stakeholders and coming from different directions is converging around common understandings for the conditions needed for establishing all-of-society resilience to disasters. Based on the outcomes of the projects, and building on decades of disaster science, we propose four key-dimensions where investing in disaster resilient societies is still needed: 1) enhancing the participation of multiple stakeholders, and 2) building capacities in order to 3) reduce vulnerabilities, enabled by 4) organizational change leading to the adaptability of formal DRM organisations’ routines and operating structures. Overall this paper helps to advance a European research agenda towards areas where research, policy priorities, and funding is still needed to further enable all-of-society resilience and DRM competency building among populations at risk. Please do share widely!
