AOE4 is actively working to change that! 🛠️ 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐝: Using #GILL tools and a co-designed program at #FabLab Coventry, the AOE4 initiative empowered a cohort of migrant women to develop eco-entrepreneurial skills, start microbusinesses, and access maker spaces and mentorship. 💡 Key insights from the program: Hands-on, informal maker spaces like FabLab drive practical learning and empowerment Female role models and creative tech teaching approaches matter Building trust in marginalized communities takes time and intention Scaling microbusinesses remains a significant challenge 📢 It’s time to rethink traditional innovation models and build more inclusive, community-driven approaches to entrepreneurship—ones that truly support those often left out of the system. 🔗 Read the full blog post: "Migrant Women: Still an Enterprise and Innovation Blind Spot – Reflections from AOE4" https://lnkd.in/dmYXVRfs 🙌 Our #GILLprojectEU partners: ENoLL (European Network of Living Labs) | G.A.C. 🔔 New GILL Blog Post 🔔 Empowering Women in Academia & Entrepreneurship – #AOE2 Insights We’re excited to share a new blog post from AOE2, part of the #GILL Project’s mission to empower female entrepreneurship. Authored by Zsófia Hacsek (Coventry University), the βλογ post explores the journey, challenges, and key insights from the first experimentation cycle. 🎯 𝐀𝐎𝐄2 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞 & 𝐎𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 AOE2 explores why female academics face barriers in engaging with Enterprise & Innovation (E&I) offices and works to bridge this gap through an innovation-focused platform. Our goal is to increase E&I participation among female researchers by: ✅ Supporting the commercialization of research ✅ Understanding gender-based differences in research exploitation ✅ Enhancing education & entrepreneurial practices, especially in health, digital transformation, and the green transition 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 💡 Breaking Barriers: Supporting Women in Academia & Entrepreneurship Our research uncovered a critical gap—many women in academia aspire to entrepreneurship but often outside traditional university spinouts. Institutional support remains a key challenge. 🔑 Key Insights: 💠 Women seek entrepreneurial opportunities beyond research-linked spinouts. 💠 Universities often lack the infrastructure to support them. 💠 A Living Lab is needed—offering business knowledge, role models & networking. 🚀 The #SalonSeries Living Lab is our response! A dynamic space where women can co-create knowledge, access mentorship, and develop sustainable ventures. 📖 Read the full reflections here: https://lnkd.in/da6PQtdJ 💬 What’s the biggest barrier women in academia face when pursuing entrepreneurship? 🚀 𝐆𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐔𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞 – 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐀𝐎𝐄1’𝐬 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐂𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬! We’re excited to share a new blog post exploring the outcomes of the first experimentation cycle within #AOE1, part of the GILL Project’s mission to address gender and diversity blindness in the Living Lab discourse and practices. Authored by Paul Magee, Coventry University, the post details the journey, challenges, and key insights from developing innovative, accessible design methodologies. 🔗 Read the full post here: https://lnkd.in/dgGM82_R 🎯 𝐀𝐎𝐄1 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞 & 𝐎𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 AOE1 aims to deepen understanding of #genderinequality and the potential of Gender Responsive Smart Innovation (#GRSI) to address real-world challenges. At its core is the creation of an 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 (OIP) featuring a collaborative sketch pad—a tool for sharing and developing design provocations with citizens and design students. Led by #CoventryUniversity, AOE1 focuses on #productdesign, #technology, and #innovations, especially within the #greentransition domain. The experiments address both individual and team practices. 📝 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 The first cycle was an exciting process of innovation and learning, centered on developing an Open Innovation Platform (OIP) to support collaboration between citizens, stakeholders, and design students. The goal: 𝒅𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒄𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒛𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒘𝒆𝒓 𝒄𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒛𝒆𝒏𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒆𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒈𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑹𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝑺𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝑰𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 (𝑮𝑹𝑺𝑰). 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐝: · Co-designing a paper-based, low-tech design game for collaborative ideation. · Using inclusive methodologies like cognitive walkthroughs, journey mapping, and team onboarding. · Mock-ups and testing with design students to understand real-world application and challenges. 🔑 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 💠 There was reluctance to engage with gender issues, with discussions mostly led by female participants. 💠Participants preferred visual, video-based formats for learning. 💠Minimal interest in purely design-focused skills by local entrepreneurs — shifting focus to real barriers and skill development in Cycle 2. 🔮 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝: Cycle 2 focus on upskilling citizens and removing barriers to participation, making the design process more inclusive and accessible for all. We’re proud of the progress so far and are excited to continue this journey of innovation and inclusivity.
