Change is hard - our brains are wired to resist it. We have to live with continuous change and build mechanisms to cope with the changes in our immediate environment. What if we can use neuroscience to drive our preparedness for change? Is it time to rewire? The European School of Administration - EuSA had the pleasure of organising a 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲 for senior managers of all EU institutions at the European Committee of the Regions on this inspirational topic. Keynote speaker, neuropsychologist Katelijn Nijsmans, guided us through 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞: 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. EuSA Leadership Circle is a great occasion for senior managers of all EU institutions to connect with peers and experts on relevant topics and exchange insights from diverse yet interlinked perspectives. We want to thank the European Committee of the Regions for hosting and all senior managers for their active participation! Our next Leadership Circle will take place in Luxembourg on 6 June, stay tuned! Last week, the EuSA launched the Newly Appointed Directors programme which will run over 9 months, supporting senior managers as they set out in their new roles. In the current geopolitical context, it is even more important for leaders to anchor their leadership in a clear sense of purpose and leadership identity; this programme offers participants a much-needed opportunity to take a step back to reflect, see the bigger picture and find their place in it. Networking and community building are also key dimensions of the programme. We wish the NAD 2025 cohort an insightful journey! #seniormanagers #learninganddevelopment #growth #peertopeer #buildingacommunity #leadership #reflect #network #EuSA Anna Mitelman, Christiane Keutgens, Sophie Louveaux, Amélie De Henau

𝐄𝐮𝐒𝐀 𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟎 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐒 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓! You might remember 2005 because of Star Wars Episode III, or from the birth of YouTube? There was, however, another innovative entity that saw its light that year: 26 January 2005 marked the creation of the European School of Administration - EuSA! We proudly look back on 20 years of designing and providing meaningful Learning & Development activities for all EU staff. For our 20th anniversary, we take stock of what has been and think forward; the roads to the future are lined with demands for perpetual adaptability, rethink, change, creativity, upskill and foresight at all levels. As the end of January rapidly approaches, we want to seize the moment to still wish all our stakeholders, participants and partners a great start to the New Year! We hope 2025 will bring you many inspiring moments and plenty of opportunities for growth and development for you and your organisations. Before the end of last year, Anna Mitelman, Head of the European School of Administration - EuSA, had the pleasure to be interviewed by Gerry Murray for his podcast Leading People. They spoke about transformational leadership in EU institutions, core values for co-leadership and what we do to integrate these at EuSA. In case you missed it, you can access it here. EuSA’s New Year’s resolution is to remain committed to fostering a good and healthy leadership and working culture for EU Institutions & Agencies. Colleagues from the different institutions in Luxemburg gathered during lunch to watch the 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘁 – one of the founding fathers of the EU. The venue was particularly symbolic as Luxemburg was the first seat of the High Authority of the European Coal and Steel Community presided by Jean Monnet himself in 1952 and is still the seat of many EU institutions. We embarked on an inspiring journey into the life and legacy of one of Jean Monnet a man of action whose vision and determination laid the foundation for the Europe we know today. After the film, Mr Jean-Marc Lieberherr Monnet, co-writer of the film, chairman of the 𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲, and grandson of Jean Monnet, joined the participants in rich exchange underscoring the relevance of Jean Monnet’s method as a pertinent source of inspiration for today’s challenging times. #jeanmonnetmethod #leadership #learninganddevelopment #LandD #movie #inspiration European School of Administration - EuSA, European Parliament, Court of Justice of the European Union, European Commission, European Court of Auditors, Publications Office of the European Union Anna Mitelman, Christiane Keutgens, Sophie Louveaux, Celia Pessaud, Carine ESTEVEZ, Toni De Grisantis, Amélie De Henau, Pia Zimmer

As we approach the end of 2024, the concepts of resilience and agility have certainly proven their worth. We know change is constant and we need to not only learn to live with it and try to anticipate it, but also build in mechanisms to raise awareness and improve our preparedness for it. Last week, EuSA organised its second Leadership Circle event of the year; this time in fruitful collaboration with Foresight Specialists from #EUPolicyLab and with the Council of the European Union, who hosted the event. 60+ senior managers of all EU institutions came together to discuss global trends towards 2040 and how these might reshape systems, impact specific policy domains and steer the future. The session was introduced by Keynote Speaker Pascale Junker – Senior Expert in Foresight, Strategic Planning and Forecasting – and ended with an opportunity for Directors and Director-Generals of EU institutions to meet and network in an informal setting. The EuSA Leadership Circle is organised twice a year to give senior managers a platform to connect with peers and experts on relevant topics, connect and share insights. We want to thank our great partners at the #EUPolicyLab, the Council for hosting and all senior managers for their active participation! Yesterday, the Heads and colleagues of Learning & Development in all EU institutions and agencies met to exchange on topics of joint interest and discuss capacity building in this ever-changing world where resources are continuously challenged. With a co-created agenda, colleagues drew on each other’s expertise to further projects such as newcomers’ induction training and evaluations of learning activities. EuSA is proud to host and facilitate these useful discussions, more pertinent now than ever. We closed the day with both concrete action ideas and seeds for further reflection – and most importantly – a strong sense of a united L&D community among EU institutions and agencies. #EU #EuSA #LD #learninganddevelopment #cocreation #EUinstitutions #EUAgencies #community #seeds Anna Mitelman, Christiane Keutgens, Matthieu Kleinschmager, Florence François-Poncet, Sophie Louveaux, Paola Caruso, Vincenzo Maisano, Celia Pessaud, Ann Chettle
