  • 💡 Addressing FGM as a healthcare provider can be challenging, but it is essential for the health and empowerment of women and girls affected by this practice. Some women may not realise the connection between their health symptoms and their experience with FGM. 💜 Survivors may feel embarrassed or fearful about discussing FGM, and healthcare professionals may worry about causing distress or feeling unprepared. However, creating a safe, non-judgmental space for these conversations is vital for women. It helps them recognise the link between their symptoms and FGM, empowering them to make informed decisions. 🎯 Through the End FGM E-Campus, you can gain the skills and knowledge needed to confidently approach FGM discussions in healthcare. • 💡 This April, we’re shining a spotlight on the critical importance of investing in healthcare and support for FGM Survivors as part of our annual campaign #Invest2PreventFGM. Survivors of FGM are entitled to essential support services, including trauma care, psychological counseling, and specialized healthcare. 💙 👉 However, many Survivors still face significant barriers in accessing these services. These include a lack of awareness, cultural insensitivity, and underfunded clinics, which prevent them from receiving the care they need. By investing in these vital services, we empower Survivors to heal both physically and emotionally, allowing them to reclaim their voices and become powerful advocates against FGM. When survivors receive the proper care, they are more likely to speak out, share their stories, and help break the stigma surrounding FGM. 🙌 Let’s keep working together to build a future free from FGM, where all women and girls get the support and protection they deserve!   #EndFGM

  • At #CSW69, we gathered with activists, global leaders, and policymakers to share insights on our updated global report on FGM/C, launched in collaboration with Equality Now and The U.S. End FGM/C Network. Regardless of the type, FGM constitutes a severe violation of human rights, and its prevalence remains high, bringing long-term consequences for both Survivors and society. This event underscored the urgency of addressing FGM at all levels and highlighted the importance of a collective, multisectoral approach to ending this harmful practice once and for all. We called for urgent global action to #EndFGM. 👉 Swipe to see key moments from our incredible speakers and highlights. 📑 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gs2giE4e Shivangi Misra , Global Legal Advisor Marianne Nguena Kana, Interim Director, End FGM EU Aminata Sidibé Regional Coordinator (Brussels) and the Community of Practice on FGM (CoP FGM) at GAMS Be & Co-president The End FGM European Network Divya S. • 🌍💬Language is key in ending FGM. How we talk about it can shape understanding and impact change. Here are some key Do’s and Don’ts when discussing FGM: ✅ Use "Female Genital Mutilation" (FGM) – the internationally recognized term. ✅ Respect Survivors' words – use the language they choose to describe their experiences. ✅ Focus on positive imagery – emphasize strength, resilience, and hope. ❌ Avoid shocking images – These can re-traumatize Survivors and affected communities. ❌ Don’t romanticize or rewrite Survivor stories – Respect their lived experiences. ❌ Don’t use misleading terms – Like “circumcision,” which downplays the severity of the practice. • 📃On the 8th of March, the European Commission launched its first-ever Roadmap for Women’s Rights, focusing on gender equality, ending gender-based violence (GBV), and harmful practices like female genital mutilation (FGM). End FGM EU supports the renewed commitment to promote and protect women’s rights both within the EU and globally, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). While this is a positive step towards gender equality, the Roadmap falls short in several key areas. 📢End FGM EU calls for a stronger, intersectional approach that includes all women and girls in their diversity and to guarantee sustainable funding for CSOs, including smaller grassroots organisations. 💡 Read more about End FGM EU’s full reaction on our website: https://bit.ly/41PmNU8

  • On International Day of #Happiness, let’s remember that mental well-being is a crucial component of happiness.     Survivors of gender-based violence (#GBV), especially FGM, face significant mental health challenges, often struggling with PTSD, #anxiety, and #depression.  Yet, they encounter cultural stigma and major barriers to accessing support. 🙌 The establishment of the SANT Committee and Intergroup on Mental Health in 2025 is a vital step, but more must be done.    Governments and NGOs must step up to provide universal health coverage, affordable, culturally sensitive,  FGM-informed training for mental health professionals and social workers, while promoting an intersectional approach. Let’s #Invest2PreventFGM and build a happy future for all.  #EndFGM #EUinaction
