📢 Escalating trade conflicts threaten EU supply industry. Since COVID, increased trade with the US has helped offset Europe’s shrinking trade balance with China. Now, Trump tariffs put at risk one fourth of EU's trade surplus. 📉 Squeezed between the “America First”-trade policy and China’s growing dominance, Europe finds itself at a crossroads. The Automotive Action Plan is a step in the right direction, but the EU must go further. The efforts to uphold an open, technology-driven, and investment-friendly framework have become even more crucial to help strengthen Europe's industrial base and maintain its global edge. 📊 Explore the full #CLEPADataDigest for insights: https://lnkd.in/dve9f2XH #DrivingAmbition2Action #automotivesuppliers Archibald Poty (CLEPA's Market Affairs Officer) | Nils Poel

🚘 The U.S. tariffs on imported vehicles and auto parts are placing a significant strain on Europe’s automotive supply chain. Companies face mounting pressure to relocate production, absorb increased costs, or risk losing access to key markets. This threatens long-standing investments, jobs, and competitiveness across the EU. We urgently need a coordinated response that includes: ✅ A united EU stance to safeguard strategic autonomy ✅ Support for innovation and manufacturing resilience by cutting red tape, reducing energy costs, and stimulating local demand With global supply chains under pressure, the time for smart, strategic action is now. 🚨 US tariffs threaten EU automotive suppliers – A call for unity 🚨 The recent tariff measures imposed by the US, including a 25% levy on imported European cars, pose a significant challenge to automotive suppliers and transatlantic trade relations. CLEPA strongly opposes these actions, which risk disrupting supply chains, increasing costs, and straining economic ties between the EU and the US. In addition to the tariffs on steel and aluminium taking effect today, further tariffs on automotive parts are expected on 3 May 2025. The potential ripple effect of these measures could severely impact EU suppliers, particularly if retaliatory actions on US-sourced products come into play. With EU trade ministers set to meet on 6 April, a decision on countermeasures could come next week. 📢CLEPA urges European institutions to respond with unity and determination to protect the EU’s economy and ensure fair trade. Now is the time for collaboration and decisive action. 📰 Read our PRESS RELEASE here: https://lnkd.in/eref5esN

🔴 CO2 standards amendment: Short-term gains must align with technology-neutral ambition CLEPA welcomes the European Commission’s latest amendment to CO₂ standards for cars and vans, particularly the introduction of an averaging mechanism for emissions reduction. However, short-term measures must be part of a broader, technology-neutral ambition. A market-aligned and feasible transition requires diverse technological solutions. Consumers and markets are signalling a strong preference for a mix of technologies. While demand for hybrid vehicles is growing in key markets like China and the U.S., interest in battery electric vehicles has stagnated. Europe’s automotive suppliers are ready to innovate, but need a regulatory framework that supports all viable technologies. The Commission must send a clear signal that technology neutrality is essential for a successful transition. 📰 Read our press release here: https://lnkd.in/eWRePy6R #DrivingAmbition2Action #automotivesuppliers

🚗 Every car has a story—of journeys taken and roads explored. But what if that story didn’t end when the car’s first life was over? A circular economy keeps materials in use longer, ensuring durability, reuse, and recyclability from design to end-of-life, turning yesterday’s innovations into tomorrow’s solutions. Automotive suppliers are integrating eco-design, modular components, and advanced recycling technologies to recover metals, plastics, and rare materials. 🌱FORVIA’s MATERI'ACT is one example—pioneering low-CO₂ materials from hemp-based compounds to recycled plastics, setting new standards for circularity. 🎥⬇ Scaling these innovations requires clear policies: ✅ Boost research innovation funding for circular design ✅ Revise EU taxonomy to properly recognise and incentives components designed for circularity ✅ Implement market incentives to accelerate adoption of circular products ✅ Enhance the end-of-life-vehicles regulation with harmonised rules for calculating chemically recycled content Discover more here: https://lnkd.in/dEcxGGjV
