Empowering impoverished communities across Sri Lanka since 2014.

About us

Vanni Hope is an Australian-based charity committed to empowering communities across Sri Lanka through sustainable development, education, healthcare, emergency response, and economic empowerment. Since 2014, we have worked alongside local communities to create lasting change, focusing on improving access to essential services and building pathways to long-term resilience. Our work focuses on six key pillars. In Community Development, we strengthen communities through infrastructure improvements, clean water projects, and child welfare initiatives. Our Education Support programs expand access to quality learning by providing digital tools, scholarships, and upgraded school facilities. In times of crisis, our Emergency Response efforts deliver immediate relief and support long-term recovery for affected communities. Health Enhancement initiatives focus on strengthening healthcare systems by donating medical equipment, organising community health screenings, and improving hospital infrastructure. Sustainable Livelihoods programs help individuals build stable incomes through vocational training, microloans, and agricultural projects. Our Women’s Empowerment initiatives provide women with the resources, skills, and financial support needed to achieve economic independence and leadership roles. At Vanni Hope, our mission is to uplift communities by addressing the root causes of poverty and inequality, empowering individuals to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives. Through strategic partnerships and the generosity of our donors, we continue to expand our reach and create opportunities for Sri Lankans to thrive. Join us in building stronger communities and a brighter future for Sri Lanka.

We are proud to announce that Vanni Hope has officially partnered with Project C.U.R.E., the world’s largest supplier of donated medical equipment and supplies to resource-limited communities across the globe. This marks Project C.U.R.E.’s first-ever initiative in Sri Lanka, and we are honoured to join hands with them to strengthen healthcare infrastructure across the Eastern Province, with a focus on the Batticaloa District. Through this collaboration, we will be delivering critical medical equipment and addressing infrastructure gaps in hospitals that serve some of the most underserved communities in the region. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Naj Nagendran and Dr. Sangarapillai Asokan, our Health Projects Advisors based in the USA, for their vital role in facilitating this partnership. This is a significant milestone for Vanni Hope as we continue to grow our impact through global collaboration. 📖 Read more about this partnership on our website: https://lnkd.in/gbxik-qF #VanniHope #ProjectCURE #SriLankaHealthcare #NonprofitPartnership #GlobalHealth #MedicalRelief #HealthcareAccess #EasternProvinceSriLanka #Batticaloa #MedicalEquipmentDonation #SriLankaDevelopment #CommunityHealth

Through Vanni Hope’s Handicraft & Artisan Goods Project, part of our Sustainable Livelihoods and Women’s Empowerment Initiatives, we provided her with microcredit support and an advanced oven to help expand her craft offerings. Now, she’s not only continuing her traditional trade but also diversifying her business, creating more opportunities for herself and her family. • Could you study in a classroom without a roof? We didn’t think so. That’s why, after severe storm damage completely tore off the roof of a classroom and caused structural issues at J/Ramanathan Hindu Ladies College, Vanni Hope stepped in to help. Through our Education Infrastructure Project, one of our Education Support initiatives, we fully restored the classroom, ensuring students and teachers have a safe and secure space to continue learning. The repairs included a complete roof reconstruction, wall repairs and painting, and structural reinforcements to prevent future damage. Now, students can focus on their education without worrying about weather-related disruptions. Swipe through the before and after photos to see the transformation. This is the power of community-driven impact. 📖 Read more on our website: https://lnkd.in/gMcRWtWx 🎥 Watch the full coverage on our YouTube channel: https://lnkd.in/gwzazNyR #VanniHope #EducationSupport #EmergencyResponse #ClassroomRepairs #SriLankanStudents #Children

We are proud to release our 2024 Annual Report, highlighting a year of growth, impact, and community transformation across Sri Lanka. Thanks to the incredible support from our donors, partners, and volunteers, we’ve been able to expand life-changing programs in education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, community development, and more. Last year, we responded to critical challenges, including the devastating Cyclone Fengal, by providing essential relief such as dry food rations, clean water, and emergency shelter to affected families. This effort was part of our broader commitment to supporting communities during times of crisis. From providing clean drinking water to over 200 families and building 50+ new homes, to equipping rural hospitals with vital medical equipment and supporting women entrepreneurs in starting small businesses, every project has been driven by a shared vision—to create long-lasting change for vulnerable communities. Last year also saw us refine our strategic focus, strengthen our six core pillars, and deepen our impact across Sri Lanka's nine provinces. Read the full report on our website to see how your support is making a difference: https://lnkd.in/gZHqu3KK Together, we’re building stronger communities and brighter futures for Sri Lanka. • Vanni Hope is proud to announce a new partnership with The Aram Initiative, a youth-led organisation committed to reconnecting the global young Sri Lankan diaspora with their roots while creating positive impacts on local communities. This collaboration is a significant step in engaging young Sri Lankans living abroad, giving them the opportunity to actively contribute to community development while fostering deeper connections with their cultural roots. Our Chairman, Ranjan Sivagnanasundaram, recently met with Harren Selvakumar, Co-founder of The Aram Initiative, to formalise this partnership. Together, we will work to engage global Sri Lankan youth in meaningful community projects, foster cultural connections between the diaspora and local communities, support education, healthcare, and sustainability initiatives, connect diaspora youth with children in our Illams (children’s homes), and build the next generation of leaders committed to Sri Lanka’s future. Through health camps, educational donations, community workshops, and volunteer opportunities, this partnership bridges communities and empowers youth to be changemakers. An inspiring case study from our collaboration with Vanni Hope in #SriLanka Srishkantharasha Radhi is an active member of the Women's Empowerment Society, actively engaging in the gardening initiative that aims to empower women through agriculture. Her commitment to the cause is evident in the variety of crops she cultivates in her garden, such as brinjal, green peas, okra, and chili. Through her hard work and dedication, she managed to achieve a significant harvest, particularly excelling in the production of long beans. Her success in cultivating long beans resulted in a considerable amount of harvest (100 kg), which she then sold at a competitive price of 220 rupees per kilogram, yielding a total income of 22,000 rupees. This indicated her agricultural skills and also highlighted her ability to generate a substantial profit from her efforts. Additionally, she harvested 30 kg of eggplant, as a first batch of harvest. The brinjal harvest yielded a profit of 4,200 rupees by selling at a rate of 140 rupees per kilogram. Consistently, 30 to 40 kilograms of brinjal were harvested weekly for a duration of 6 to 8 months. She said that this diversification of crops not only added to her earnings but also demonstrated her proficiency in managing different types of produce. Srishkantharasha Radhi expressed her gratitude towards the loan program that supported her agricultural endeavours, emphasizing its superiority over other loan systems she had encountered. She noted that the flexibility and benefits offered by this program were instrumental in her success and growth as a farmer. Furthermore, she mentioned the possibility of expanding her cultivation activities even further if the loan amount were to be increased. This ambition reflects her entrepreneurial spirit and determination to continue thriving in the field of agriculture. Srishtikantha Radhi's story is a testament to the transformative power of initiatives that empower women in agriculture, showcasing how dedication, hard work, and support can lead to remarkable achievements in farming.
