We've partnered with The University of Queensland to develop new learning pathways for mining. Together, we have co-designed three new post-graduate qualifications to provide specialised training in mining disciplines and elevate the standard of mining education.    With two graduate certificates and a graduate diploma in resource development on offer, the program is tailored to engineers who want to gain formal qualifications in mining through real world, on the job learning.   Thiess Operations Director – Australia East Peter Rule said: “This partnership brings together Thiess as a leading mining services provider and UQ as a world class tertiary educator to deliver academically recognised qualifications for engineering professionals wanting to convert across from non-mining disciplines to the mining industry."   Read more: https://lnkd.in/gvhUjeAr

Apply now for the $10,000 Rethinking Emergency Medicine Research (#REMR) Grant. This grant is a unique opportunity for university students to collaborate with the Princess Alexandra Hospital Emergency Department on a project outside the traditional fields of medicine, nursing, or allied health — but with direct impact on emergency care environments, staff or patients. 👉 Your degree doesn’t have to be in health — and even if it is, your project just needs to come from a non-health lens. 🗓️ Expressions of interest close COB 9 May 2025 🔗 Learn more and apply via the PA Research Foundation: https://lnkd.in/gY34Tx8P

  • On Monday, #WomenInSoMME hosted an inspiring panel featuring past graduates. Facilitated by Dr. Dan YUAN; Julie Whitcombe, Mikaela Millerd, and Sarah Mecklem shared their insights on career pathways and growth, industry preparation, and making an impact. Here are some of the key takeaways from the discussion: 🔹 Industry placements matter – Mikaela encouraged everyone to keep an open mind about opportunities. 🔹 Mentorship is powerful – Sarah shared how mentors helped her challenge the status quo. 🔹 Role models shape us – Dr. Yuan reflected on Ruth’s influence on her career. 🔹 Confidence and responsibility – Julie emphasised the importance of taking ownership of personal growth. 🔹 Find what sparks joy – Sarah advised exploring different industries to discover what truly excites you. Top advice from our panellists: ✅ Uni is more than just your GPA! – Mikaela ✅ Don’t be afraid to try new things! – Julie ✅ Asking for help is a strength, not a weakness! – Sarah A big thank you to Associate Professor Ruth Knibbe and Yu Liu for organising this event, as well as our amazing panellists for sharing their advice and insights. And of course, a special shoutout to everyone who attended - it was great to see some of our undergraduate students in the audience too! #CareerGrowth #IndustryInsights #WomenInSoMME

  • UQ Space claims top Australian position in 2025 Australian Rover Challenge!! The School of Mechanical and Mining Engineering proudly congratulates UQ Space's outstanding achievement at the Australian Rover Challenge (March 27-30, 2025) at the University of Adelaide's Roseworthy Campus👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. The competition challenged teams to navigate a simulated lunar environment while completing complex navigation, resource collection, and construction tasks. Our talented team of UQ students secured second place 🥈 overall and emerged as Australia's top-performing team🥇, behind AGH Space Systems from AGH University of Krakow, Poland. This accomplishment represents months of dedicated effort, with students applying their theoretical knowledge to solve real-world engineering challenges. Through designing and building their semi-autonomous rover, team members developed crucial skills in robotics, systems integration, and collaborative problem-solving that will serve them throughout their professional careers. 🎉Congratulations 🎉 to all UQ Space members on this remarkable achievement!
