The Swanton Trophy at The Metropolitan Golf Club marks the official opening of the men's season, bringing members together in a spirited contest between the Captain’s Team and the President’s Team. This year’s tournament was particularly historic, as it featured the first-ever female President in the club’s esteemed history. With Kim Hastie’s participation, the Swanton Trophy witnessed a groundbreaking moment, reflecting the Club’s evolving legacy while maintaining its deep-rooted traditions. It was a day of fun competition, history, and celebration—a fitting start to the season.

In what could only be described as brutal conditions, 12-year Metropolitan member 𝗦𝘂 𝗢𝗵 has won the 2025 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽! Huge winds gusted across the southern ocean hitting the Bellarine Peninsula’s 13th Beach with full force, and it took the patience, resilience, and poise of a seasoned champion to post a solid two-over-par 74 (must have felt like 10-under) to be the Clubhouse leader. Metro's own, Ruben Lal (our assistant golf professional), did us proud in the pre-Christmas Victorian Blitz Golf tournament, fighting off some serious talent to take his victory!   He played alongside a stable of celebrity competitors, including horse racing royalty Damien Oliver, cricket champion Glenn Maxwell, Melbourne Demon Steven May, Carlton brothers Elijah and Ollie Hollands, and Rugby League fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen.   "I didn't really expect too much, as I haven't been practicing and playing all that much lately," Ruben said about his win.   "It was really special having the kids there, and celebrating with them! It was a very fun day out for the whole family."

38-year member, former board member, and proud advocate for women in golf, Kim Hastie, has made history as the first female President at The Metropolitan Golf Club. It’s an iconic step in the Club’s rich history, that was recognised in an article by Golf Australia. “There’s a definite shift. We’re excited to be hosting another Mobility Clinic on the Green with Amputee Golf Victoria and Össur Australia and New Zealand here at Metropolitan on Dec 9. Designed for amputees of all ages and ability levels, the clinic is coordinated by Mike Rolls, a champion all-abilities golfer and Amputee Golf Victoria President. The clinic will cover everything from the basics of swing dynamics and warm-up techniques to the physical and mental benefits of the game.
