For years, the communities of Djuba and Djonasse near our Mozal Aluminium operation in Mozambique have faced enormous challenges in the rainy season when flooding regularly interrupts the connection to schools, markets and healthcare – creating significant challenges for thousands of families. To address this issue, our team at MOZAL, S.A. has funded the construction of two new bridges which will ensure continued access to and from those communities during those rainy periods. The bridges will mean that local kids will be able to get to school, small businesses can continue to operate and access to goods and services will be uninterrupted. Samuel Gudo, President Mozal Aluminium, and the Mozal team joined local authorities and community members last week to officially commence the construction of the bridges along the KM16-Beluluane road. This project adds to Mozal’s proud legacy of support for its local community, in addition to the significant contribution that it makes to the economy in its region and for Mozambique more broadly. #community #infrastructure #support

Mining has changed significantly as technology and standards have evolved. For the team designing our first new mining operation at Hermosa, those changes have brought both new challenges and exciting new opportunities. As Superintendent Mine Planning at South32 Hermosa, Kevin McCoy is playing a key role in developing a next-generation mine. He recently joined On the Rocks Podcast by Prospector for a masterclass episode on modern mine planning with host Emily King. Hermosa’s Taylor zinc-lead-silver development – which is now under construction - has been designed to minimise its environmental impact, featuring a small footprint underground mine with efficient water use and dry-stack tailings. Hermosa will use extensive automation technology and, in part, be run remotely from an integrated remote operating centre known as Centro, located in the nearby city of Nogales. This will allow workers to operate machinery remotely from an office environment, as well as monitoring and controlling many elements of Hermosa’s operations. Check out the full episode of On the Rocks to hear Kevin discuss all of those topics and more. #mining #technology #innovation

After our train wagons are emptied at Cannington's port, they now pass through a high-impact water spray. It's not quite a full scrub and polish, but it is making a difference by significantly reducing air emissions such as dust. The new process minimises the risk of spreading fugitive emissions during their 800 km return journey to the road-to-rail transfer facility. Since installing the new system in May 2022, Cannington has reduced fugitive lead emissions by over 75 per cent on average and fugitive zinc emissions by 64 per cent on average. Cannington uses train wagons to transport lead and zinc concentrate to the Port of Townsville where it is loaded onto ships for export to customers around the world. Runoff water from activities at Cannington Port is used in the train washing system and after being reused in a number of train washes, the water is processed through a water treatment plant and reused in operational activities at site. The system also helps to reduce waste, as it separates and recovers concentrate build-up which is loaded onto vessels and sent to our customers. #innovation #mining #transport

For almost 30 years, Hillside Aluminium has played an important role in supporting jobs and downstream industries, both locally in Richards Bay and elsewhere in South Africa. Hillside supplies aluminium to domestic customers to support the growth of South Africa's downstream aluminium industry, supplying approximately 170,000 tonnes in FY24. By supplying local producers, Hillside helps South African businesses to grow and create more jobs. Aluminium’s useful properties make it a crucial component for many modern technologies, and through our global aluminium value chain we’re involved at all stages of its production. With Hillside supporting thousands of direct jobs and tens of thousands of indirect employment opportunities, we are proud of the significant economic contribution which it continues to make. #hillside #metals #southafrica

International Women's Day is an important occasion to recognise the contributions made by women across our workplaces, communities and beyond. Thank you to all the women at South32 and beyond who are making important and growing contributions to our industry! At South32, we are committed to building a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities where we operate and fostering a culture where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered to contribute. This is what that means for three impressive women across our business - Felicidade at Mozal Aluminium in Mozambique, Jayne at our Hermosa Project in Arizona, and Dusti at Worsley Alumina in Western Australia 🔽 #IWD2025 #womeninmining #mining MOZAL, S.A. Our Hillside Aluminium operation plays an important role for its local area in South Africa, both economically and through its ongoing commitment to supporting its local communities through a range of initiatives and partnerships. Located in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal and servicing several surrounding districts, Queen Nandi Hospital is dedicated exclusively to obstetrics, gynaecology, and neonatal care. Each year the hospital provides around 8,000 deliveries and 2,000 gynaecological surgeries – often operating over-capacity which requires borrowing equipment from other wards or transferring children to other hospitals. In response to these challenges, Hillside has made significant healthcare investments at the hospital, totalling R6.8 million to date – including providing equipment to combat COVID-19, supporting the installation of a paediatric ICU access control system and donating a neonatal retina camera to help detect blindness in infants. Last week, the team from Hillside visited the hospital to officially hand over a donation of 56 paediatric cot beds to ensure the hospital can provide its youngest patients with the best care possible. The initiative aims to improve health outcomes for children aged 0 to 5 years by enhancing the capacity and equipment of the paediatric unit. Well done to the team at Hillside for delivering this important contribution, and thank you to the staff at Queen Nandi Hospital for the important service you provide to your local communities. #partnership #community #southafrica

Greenfield exploration is essential if our industry is to meet the challenge of supplying commodities the world needs for a low-carbon future. At South32, we produce minerals and metals critical to the world’s energy transition – and we are progressing our pipeline of exploration prospects as we work to discover and responsibly develop our next generation of mines. This week our exploration and business development teams are at #PDAC2025 in Toronto, where they are highlighting our exploration work, looking for new projects and meeting with our partners and peers. As part of the convention, Mirek Wozga, South32 Vice President Exploration and Robert Wilson Manager Exploration at South32 Hermosa presented a masterclass covering South32’s exploration portfolio and work to explore the Peake copper prospect at Hermosa. If you are at the convention, be sure to drop by booth 2516! #mining #exploration Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC)

In March last year, Tropical Cyclone Megan had a significant impact on Groote Eylandt and on GEMCO. Since then, our team at GEMCO has been working hard to deliver a safe return to operations. We continue to implement our operational recovery plan, including work to construct a new wharf and the ongoing dewatering program which has enabled access to certain mining pits and a phased restart of mining activities. Production resumed from the primary concentrator with FY25 guidance of 1,000kwmt. We also progressed the demolition of undersea structures and commenced installing pilings for the new wharf. Subject to further potential impacts from the wet season, export sales are expected to begin and progressively increase over Q4 FY25. Thank you to our teams at GEMCO for your hard work over the past year. #mining #gemco #manganese
