The future of premium video is at a critical juncture. 📺🎬 In her Mi3Australia op-ed, Pippa Leary, News Corp Australia's Managing Director & Publisher, Free News and Lifestyle, lays it out plainly – premium long-form video – #BVOD, #AVOD, #CTV – is at a crossroads. She cautions the industry not to repeat the mistakes of programmatic display. “If heavy lifting falls just on the shoulders of the media owners, the demand side of the market – brands and their agencies – do not lean in, then we will see the inflow of intermediaries and bad actors as we have with display,” Leary says. And the cost? It hits both sides of the fence. “This isn’t just media owners touting self-interest,” she adds. Leary, who recently participated in the Future of TV Advertising panel, also argues it’s time to rethink how we define success – moving beyond last-click #attribution and aligning what really drives outcomes in a customer-driven world. News Australia and its client and agency partners have been recognised as finalists in two prestigious categories at the 2025 Mumbrella Awards. 🏆 🤝 The Help Our Highway campaign in partnership with NRMA Insurance and Initiative, was a brave #advocacy initiative calling for more to be done to improve the Bruce Highway, a vital 1,670km transport corridor notorious for its dangerous conditions. News Corp Australia united its Queensland mastheads, led by The Courier-Mail, for an unprecedented editorial blitz. Supported by surveys, statewide coverage, and multi-platform storytelling and PR. The campaign amplified Queenslanders' voice, driving awareness and positioning NRMA Insurance as a trusted brand that helps. Our award nomination for Levelling the Playing Field in partnership with Spark Foundry and Westpac was a bold push to elevate women’s NRL to the same level of recognition as the men’s game. Aimed at tackling #gender disparities in the sport, the campaign blended hard-hitting #sports content with lifestyle storytelling to attract new audiences. Through impactful media executions and purposeful content in Body & Soul — the campaign made female players unmissable across both traditional and digital platforms. These nominations reflect the strength of #collaboration, meaningful partnerships, and the impact of purposeful media that drives positive change. Congratulations to all the finalists and stakeholders — looking forward to celebrating with you at The Star this July! A big moment for premium video in Australia. 📺🎬 Yesterday, at the Future of TV Advertising Forum, Pippa Leary, News Corp Australia’s Managing Director, Free News & Lifestyle joined a powerhouse panel alongside Nine and Seven, all aligned on one thing: it’s time to protect premium #video from the pitfalls of the open web. In March, News announced an expanded #video strategy in an exclusive partnership with Tubi – North America’s second largest streaming service – during its annual digital marketing symposium, #D_Coded. Now, Leary is leading the charge to ensure Tubi’s high-quality inventory is traded through programmatic guaranteed – not left to the open exchanges where value gets diluted. "If you think you can go and just buy a lot of cheap reach with some unknown #data attached to it, that’s not going to work well in the long run. There is now a continuum (of video types); they play different roles. Trying to mix them all up together is not going to work," she said. The broadcasters’ united call? Collaborate on #tech and #data. Compete on content. And avoid repeating mistakes of the display market. Streamers like Tubi are welcome. But not at the cost of quality. Breaking Through the Noise: Frontiers 2025 Starts Now! 🚀🔊🌟 A massive thank you to all the Victorian Independent Agencies who joined us this week at Greenfields Albert Park for the first leg of Frontiers Roadshow 2025. Your energy, insights, and collaboration set the tone for what promises to be an incredible program ahead. Now in its fifth year, #Frontiers is all about building momentum – bringing agencies together with News Corp Australia’s editors, product leaders, and client solutions teams to explore #priorities, tackle #challenges and unlock new opportunities. This year, we’re taking on one of the biggest industry challenges: the Sea of Sameness.
