Vacation Research Scholarships offer an opportunity to work closely with our experienced researchers. And most recently, Bachelor of Engineering and Arts graduate Ella Marie Di Stasio joined the MOD team in completing a 4-week placement in analysing our 2024 exhibition dataset. Answering how might MOD. examine the participation of public audiences in foresight and science engagement. Read Ella Marie Di Stasio's blog here: https://lnkd.in/gmWs4Dwk

What a great night in Whyalla for the Adelaide Fringe and Unearth Whyalla event, “Would you want to be the same forever?” We explored how our bodies and brains change with age, what we can do about it, and the ethics around future technologies to “overcome” death. The audience was so engaged and asked such great questions. I especially loved the word cloud we made about what they look forward to with age- so many great things still to come! Keen to hear more? We’re in Mt Gambier next week or you can visit the Forever exhibit MOD. through November.

Continuing our collaborative relationship with MOD., in January we launched 'Beyond Endings' - an exhibit set in a speculative future where living beyond death is possible. Visitors enter the gallery for a job interview at EternaLife, a leading death tech service provider, and converse with a virtual employee of the fictional company before being offerred a role (or not!). Later this month, Tom Siddall and Claudia von der Borch will be speaking about the project at the MuseumNext AI Summit. They'll cover how we integrated custom metahumans and a LLM for a truly personal and highly interactive experience on the museum floor. What happens when art and advanced manufacturing collide? You get this beautiful 3D printed piece for the FOREVER exhibit at MOD. The new exhibit at the University of South Australia's MOD. is exploring time and its effect on our lives. This part represents the Quantum department where you can interview with a death tech service provider EternaLife in the year 2125. The design and exhibit was created by Junior Major. This was one of our largest prints on our Bambu Lab printer, taking 40 hours and 1.2kg of glitter iridescent PLA material. #NCRISimpact #ANFFNetwork #3Dprinting #AdditiveManufacturing #AdvancedManufacturing Judy Halliday Department of State Development Jason Clare MP Australian Government Department of Education Jane Fitzpatrick The Australian National Fabrication Facility (ANFF)

The other day, some of our Access2Arts team had the pleasure of attending the launch of the new exhibition at MOD. - 'Forever' 💫 In this exhibition, experience time in new ways. Traverse past, present and future by navigating the blurred lines between these states of being. Look at the world, ourselves and our actions differently. We are thrilled to have worked with MOD. to make this exhibition accessible by creating audio description for 'Forever'. You can find the audio descriptions on the MOD. website and through the Accessibility Station physically located at the front of the exhibition on the ground floor. The audio description sits alongside other access provisions at the Accessibility Station, including Sensory Maps, noise-reducing headphones and more 🎧 MOD. also have a sensory friendly night coming up on Thursday March 6 at 5 PM - learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gtv_vPPy [Image 1: a person wearing a black dress with colourful flowers and leaning on their cane smiles as they hold up a booklet that says "Sensory Map". Thank you, Mayor Anne Monceaux and the City of Burnside, for the Highly Commended Burnside Young Citizen of the Year 2025 Award. I really enjoy what I do, meeting new people, learning from them, sharing our perspective on youth advisory boards and workshops, volunteering, speaking at conferences, and organising events. I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with others in STEM and beyond, together representing young voices, and shaping the future. Thank you to those who genuinely involved young people in advisory roles in my journey so far: Dan, Carol and Chris Harding at Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, Nicole Champagne at VEX Robotics, University of Adelaide, Lisa van Beeck at at Australian Council for Educational Research, The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award - Australia, Dr Melanie Bagg GAICD at the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF), Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency, Kristin Alford at MOD., auDA - .au Domain Administration Ltd., David Dewar, Dr Andrew Bradley and all members at the Rotary Club of Burnside. Also grateful to the teachers, staff, leadership, and friends at Pembroke School and university, as well as those I’ve met through speaking and volunteering at the EdTechSA teachers’ conferences, especially Paul Clapton-Caputo and the amazing Tina Photakis. A big thank you to my family, friends, Morgan and Margaret Northcote and the many young people I’ve met along the way. After 9 years we now farewell MOD.’s inaugural Director Dr Kristin Alford as she pursues a new adventure to California as Co-Exectutive Director of The Ubuntu Lab. Kristin leaves a legacy of leading with a kind heart while pushing perspectives. Challenging visitors, stakeholders and staff to imagine possibilities of the future. The staff at MOD. and UniSA will deeply miss Kristin but, we know that she will continue to achieve great things in her future.
And that’s a wrap. Thank you MOD. for the love, dedication and care. So proud of everything we’ve accomplished. Time for new adventures. Congratulations to the amazing Lisa Bailey who will take the reins from here! #forever University of South Australia Photo: Ingrid Kellenbach via Erica Green

Hello Fellow Futures and Foresight Thinkers, We would like to invite you to our Foresight Community of Practice Gathering on Tuesday 28th of January, 5 - 7:30 pm to welcome and learn from mutant futurist Timothy Boykett. With a background in abstract mathematics and computer science, contemporary art and experimental music, Tim co-founded Time’s Up in 1996 and has been an essential part of the development of their groundbreaking work in immersive installations, physical narrative and experiential futures. Tim and other members of Time’s Up were exposed to futures techniques over a decade ago. They mutated their artistic practice by adding futures literacy to the mix, and developed a hybrid form of immersive physical narrative that plunges participants into an enacted and staged experiential fragment of a possible future scenario. The Foresight Community of Practice drinks is co-hosted by Dr Kristin Alford and Professor Ariella Helfgott as a chance to connect with others working or interested in foresight in South Australia. The galleries will be open from 5 pm where you can view our new exhibition FOREVER to experience time in new ways. Entry is free. Short speeches and activities from 5:45 pm with mutant futurist Timothy Boykett, Program Director Foresight and Decision-Making, One Basin CRC, University of Adelaide; Director Foresight and Strategic Learning, World Energy Council; Director, SA Futures Agency Professor Dr Ariella Helfgott and the Director of MOD., and Co-Executive Director of The Ubuntu Lab, Dr Kristin Alford.
