MEET THE LGNSW TEAM 🤝 A warm welcome to Helen Stark, who has joined LGNSW's Advocacy team as Senior Policy Officer, Ageing and Aged Care. Before joining LGNSW, Helen worked in the policy team at the Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority, an independent government agency that assists the Australian Government to fund hospital and aged care services more efficiently by providing evidence-based price determinations and pricing advice. Her career spans federal and state government policy and project roles and management consulting with expertise in health and social policy, project delivery, and system reform. 📝 We asked Helen a few questions to learn a little more about her and her thoughts on her new role 👇 🗨️ What do you hope to achieve in your role? I’ve always been drawn to the challenge of turning complex policy into meaningful change on the ground. In this role, I’m looking forward to working closely with our members to advocate for strong, forward-thinking policy outcomes that reflect the diverse needs of communities across NSW. I’m especially passionate about using data, research, and lived experience to drive evidence-based policy, and I hope to contribute to work that empowers councils to deliver high-impact local solutions. 🗨️ What do you love most about the local government sector? What I love most about the local government sector is its immediacy. Councils are at the frontline of community life. They shape the places where people live, work, and connect—and the sector is full of people who care deeply about doing good work for their communities. It’s a privilege to be part of that. 🗨️ What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? “Listen more than you speak—especially when you think you already know the answer.” It’s been a helpful reminder to stay curious, seek diverse perspectives, and always make room for learning. Welcome to the team, Helen 👏 #YourLGNSW #LGNSWTeam
