Shout out to Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (SSROC) Inc. for organising such and insightful and positive ‘Buying Back Summit’ yesterday. It was great to hear from councils, regulators and solution providers about the challenges and opportunities available to deal with the mounting food waste challenge. With the new FOGO Recycling Bill / legislation driving the need for change; collaboration across the value chain is necessary to unlock more circular outcomes from wasted food. Thanks for the opportunity to be part of a learned panel, to discuss how innovations like GOTERRA MIBS can help close the processing capacity supply gap, with scalable and modular infrastructure, located closer to where the waste is generated. This week, we hosted Goterra’s Waste to Value Showcase and were blown away by the interest, engagement and energy onsite (and on the road!) Over 40 incredible people joined us across three different sites to demonstrate the scalability of our hub and spoke network, highlighting how inefficient transport/scope 3 emissions can be reduced, whilst simultaneously diverting food waste from landfill. Our guests included investors, customers and government, all invested in solving for the food waste processing infrastructure capacity gap, which is only set to grow with the passing of the FOGO Recycling Bill: https://lnkd.in/gchru-FQ. This is Climate Action Week Sydney and there are 115 community-led events across Sydney from all aspects of the climate action ecosystem! 🌱 I went to so many incredible events and met so many wonderful people. Here are my highlights: I saw the future of automotive technology at Sunswift Racing. Built in collaboration with UNSW university students and industry experts, they push the boundaries of efficient and sustainable solar electric mobility. Their Version 7 was the World Solar Challenge champions and Guinness World Record holders! Food waste manufacturing innovators, GOTERRA, incorporate insects with industrial robots to manage waste and produce sustainable protein. Food scraps are first collected, weighed, blended, and fed to maggots who chew the scraps. Add high-tech robotics and AI to convert food waste into fertiliser and insect protein for livestock feed. As you can see, my mind is blown by this innovation. 🤯😂 I was delighted to speak on the “Driving the Green Tech Revolution” panel and we had an awesome discussion about energy consumption, climate anxiety, political activism, and the need for policy changes. To influence a movement, we are carefully choosing what we buy, making decisions with our wallets, and voting for politicians supporting climate action and the future of our planet. I also saw scientists and startups present their circular economy and cleantech ideas and solutions, large companies talk about how they will assist with net zero and how to power more climate careers because everyone is needed in this ecosystem! Who knew underneath the city is a facility full of maggots processing tonnes of food waste? 😮 We took attendees of Climate Action Week Sydney on a tour of GOTERRA's innovative food waste facility underneath the Lendlease building to see how they're reducing food waste emissions by using black soldier fly larvae.
