📣 Out Now: Read the Institute’s Global Status of CCS 2024 report. 💡 The report shows remarkable progress for CCS over the last year, revealing: 📈 There are 628 projects in various stages of development and operation globally, illustrating an increase of 236 projects compared to the previous year 🏗 The cumulative CO2 capture capacity for projects in the CCS pipeline is now 416 Mtpa, representing a 32% Compound Annual Growth Rate since 2017. 🔎 The case for CCS globally is further being bolstered by strengthening policy, new carbon management business models and strong interest in CCS hubs and networks 🌏 As countries around the world prioritise achieving net-zero, collaboration is key to overcoming the challenges we face in global decarbonisation. Our mission is to accelerate the deployment and commercial viability of carbon capture and storage (CCS) globally. The Global CCS Institute is the world’s leading authority on carbon capture and storage (CCS) – an international climate change organisation whose mission is to accelerate the deployment of CCS as an imperative technology in tackling climate change and providing energy security. With a team of nearly 50 professionals working with and on behalf of our Members, we drive the adoption of CCS as quickly and cost effectively as possible by sharing expertise, building capacity and providing information, advocacy and advice to ensure this clean technology can play its vital role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Our diverse international membership includes governments, global corporations, private companies, research bodies and non-governmental organisations; all of whom are committed to CCS as an integral part of a clean energy future. We are headquartered in Melbourne, Australia with offices in Washington DC, Brussels, Beijing, Tokyo and Abu Dhabi.

📣 Day 2 for the Institute’s activities in Brussels featured our annual Europe Member Meeting. 💡 With the event emceed by the Institute's Bruno Gerrits, Global CCS Institute, members had the chance to hear about the latest advancements in CCS technologies and cost through an informative presentation by David T. Kearns, PhD, which was followed by a comparative analysis of CCfD schemes by Callum Murfet. 🗝️ The Institute's General Manager of Business Development and Engagement, Poh Boon Ung, walked members through a detailed presentation on CCS progress in North America, highlighting key policy updates and changes. Engaging breakout sessions on the outlook for CCS deployment in Europe were also held, led skillfully by Angus Gillespie. 🔎 EBN B.V.'s Stijn Santen joined in, presenting a business case on improving decarbonisation and competitiveness of industry with CCS. Many thanks to SLB's Jon Christopher Knudsen, Swathi Raghavan with DORIS Group, Harry Spencer with Carbon Clean and Jeroen Michiels with MAN Energy Solutions for their respective presentations and CCS insights. 📣 The Institute has kicked-off its SOLD OUT Europe Forum on CCS in Brussels, Belgium! 🤝 Held every year, the Europe Forum is an opportunity for policy leaders, NGOs, industry experts, academics, those in the financial sector and the general public to meet and discuss the state of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology in Europe. 🗣️ So far, we’ve held lively discussions on CCS development in the EU with inputs from Christian Holzleitner with the European Commission, Eve Tamme from the Zero Emissions Platform (ZEP), Fredericq Peigneux with Heidelberg Materials, and Tobias Johan Sørensen with CONCITO, who shared their lens both from a policy and industry perspective on the CCS scale-up in Europe, which was followed by a conversation on financing CCS projects with Pim van Loon from the Government of the Netherlands, Urbano Troncoso Pérez with Santander, Andrew Lee with Societe Generale and Michael Brown with the UK's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. 🏗️ Joining us to unpack CO2 storage opportunities in Europe was Ane Lothe with SINTEF, Toby Lockwood from The Clean Air Task Force, Efthimios Tartaras with Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA S.A.), and Jesper Engel Brandrup with the Danish Energy Agency. 💡 With breakout sessions underway, we’re looking forward to hearing the key insights on the Carbon Management Challenge, onshore storage, CO2 transportation, CCS financing, and carbon removal, with discussions skillfully navigated by the Institute alongside the CCSA's Stefano Miriello, the IEAGHG's Tim Dixon, Nick Davis with Elimini and Johnathon Osmond with DNV.
