You’re looking at the 15-metre-long screw conveyor from Hiwa-i-te-Rangi, the 200-metre Tunnel Boring Machine at the heart of Watercare Services Limited's Central Interceptor. This powerful machine played a crucial role in the tunnelling process by transporting spoil from the excavation chamber onto a conveyor belt. Now that the 16.2-kilometre tunnel is complete, the conveyor’s work is done. But before she takes a well-earned rest, she must be carefully shortened to fit through the Pt Erin shaft which is just 10 metres in diameter. Her mission may be complete for now, but it’s not the end of the line. The screw conveyor can be reassembled and redeployed for future projects. #Ghella #Ghella4Future #WasteWater #Infrastructure #Tunnelling

Last weekend, our team working on the Sydney Metro West – Eastern Tunnelling Package had the pleasure of welcoming local residents to the Pyrmont West site for an exclusive look behind the scenes. Visitors of all ages had the unique opportunity to peer down into the shaft, which is currently under excavation. We’re now just 10 metres away from reaching the base of the 33-metre-deep West shaft, with a similar distance remaining at the Pyrmont East shaft, which will extend to 34 metres. These community open days are a fantastic opportunity for us to share the progress we're making and offer real insight into the vital work happening below ground. It's always a privilege to connect with the local community and showcase the scale and impact of this transformative project. #Ghella #Ghella4Future #Tunnelling #Infrastructure #SydneyMetro

Throughout March, we had the pleasure of hosting our first townhalls of the year across Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, bringing our teams together to reconnect, share insights, and hear directly from our senior leaders. This year, we were thrilled to welcome David Alt as a special guest speaker in Sydney and Brisbane. Having recently returned to Cross River Rail after two years on one of our Canadian projects, David shared his experiences and offered a fresh perspective on expat opportunities. His insights were invaluable for those considering international career pathways. The Ghella Excellence Awards are always a highlight of our March townhalls, and this year was no exception. We were proud to recognise the outstanding contributions of our team members with the 2024 Ghella Excellence Awards. 🏆 Melbourne: Adam Wojciechowski & Tim Fogarty 🏆 Sydney: Alexandrina Zamfir, Mitchell Grima & Massimiliano Carante 🏆 Brisbane: Patrick S. & Guy Burnell Congratulations to all our winners and a big thank you to everyone who attended! #Ghella #Ghella4Future #Townhall #Infrastructure #Networking #Tunnelling

The Sydney Metro Pyrmont Station site has seen dramatic transformations over the past year, both above and below ground, with two acoustic sheds now in place, and excavation of the East and West shafts progressing well. Roadheaders Liliana, Savannah and Bella are currently chewing through the station cavern, which will be 18 metres high, 24 metres wide and 310 metres long. Fun fact – the roadheaders at Pyrmont have all been named after daughters of three of our team members. Pictured is roadheader Liliana, shortly after her arrival. #Ghella #Ghella4Future #Infrastructure #Tunnelling #Pyrmont #SydneyMetro
