Helping South Australians conserve, sustain and prosper.

About us

Our purpose is to help South Australians conserve, sustain and prosper. It’s a big role, and we need passionate people to help us achieve it. We help our environment stay healthy. We manage water for the future, respond to climate change, connect people to nature and sustain our state’s natural resources. We take a whole-of-landscape approach to conserving native species and vegetation, working with primary producers, Aboriginal people, land managers, conservationists, communities and all levels of government. We also protect against fire and flood. We help keep the economy healthy. It is our clean environment that produces the premium food and wine that our state is known for – and contributes $18.2b per year to our economy. We connect people to nature. SA’s unique environment provides places for adventure, exercise, congregation and relaxation. We look after iconic sites including Cleland Wildlife Park, Seal Bay and Naracoorte Caves, part of the nature-based tourism industry that generates around $5.3b each year for our state. At DEW, we truly believe we make a difference. Our people are passionate about what they do. Working together, we are tackling some big challenges to help care for SA now and into the future. • Tomorrow is World Heritage Day! 🌏 Also known as the International Day for Monuments and Sites, it’s a chance to celebrate and protect the places that tell our shared human story. Heritage isn’t just historic buildings - it includes the landscapes and natural wonders that help define who we are. Did you know South Australia is home to 17 State Heritage Areas, protected because they reflect stories and values that matter to all South Australians? And we’ve got one World Heritage site too - Naracoorte Caves National Park. Recognised in 1994 alongside Queensland’s Riversleigh fossil site, Naracoorte helps tell the incredible story of Australia’s prehistoric wildlife. But we might soon have another… the spectacular Flinders Ranges is on the Tentative List for World Heritage and a formal nomination is now in the works. Why the Flinders Ranges? It’s one of the most important geological and fossil-rich areas on the planet, revealing evidence of some of Earth’s earliest life forms. Discover 15 fascinating facts about this ancient landscape: https://lnkd.in/gEGYv4qb  Let’s celebrate the places that connect us to the past - and protect them for the future. #WorldHeritageDay #FlindersRanges #NaracoorteCaves #SAHeritage #EnvironmentSA

  • We're proud to unveil the DEW finalists in this year’s Premier's Excellence Awards. The awards acknowledge individuals and teams across the public sector who strive to deliver exceptional outcomes for South Australia. And the finalists are...   👉 Yvie Eglinton for her tireless efforts to make our National Parks more accessible for people with a disability. She is a trailblazer in South Australia for creating nature without limits.   👉 The Bounceback team for their work to reintroduce the red tailed-phascogale and western quoll back into our wilderness – both had been extinct in the state for over 100 years due to feral predators and habitat loss, but now they once again call South Australia home.   👉 Geoff Axford for his innovative approach to feral pest control – eradicating introduced animals including goats and foxes from national parks so that our plants and animals can thrive.   Join us in wishing them all the best in the awards - whatever the outcome they’re all champions to us! 🏆 🏆🏆 Read more: ◾Accessibility in parks https://bit.ly/3YgqUbB ◾Bounceback https://lnkd.in/etRENGYs ◾How we're tackling pest species in SA https://lnkd.in/gTc3Njuj With SA Government | Office of the Commissioner for Public Sector Employment (OCPSE)
