We often showcase our Emesent Hovermap system autonomously navigating GPS-denied underground environments at low speeds. But did you know it’s just as capable in open, high-speed, and high-altitude scenarios? To put this to the test, we took it to a nearby farm field - along with our newly supported drone platform, the FreeFly Astro Max. This environment had fewer geometric features, making SLAM-based navigation even more challenging. We pushed the system to fly: - At 100m above ground level (AGL) @ 10 meters per second (m/s) - At 10m AGL @ 10m/s - Under canopy and among trees at 5m/s with collision avoidance The results? Emesent's navigation system performed exceptionally well, proving the power of our real-time SLAM-based localization and navigation. Even at 100m AGL and 10m/s over 1km of flight distance, the real-time SLAM localization (with no GPS) showed negligible drift when compared to onboard GPS data. Check out the video below! Last week the Dwyka Mining Services team completed a successful Emesent Hovermap Autonomy training at a Copper Mine in DRC. The mine adopted the Hovermap in 2022 since then they have went to acquire more units showing their believe in the Hovermap. They are one of the super users of the Hovermap in Africa if not the world with 8 Hovermap units. The latest release of Emesent’s visualization software, Aura 1.10 was a highlight for Emesent partner ISSoft from South Korea. They shared why at Geo Connect: “Understanding that many of our customers lack high-specification PCs, we are pleased that Aura 1.10 will simplify data processing with lower memory demands. Emesent’s SLAM has been updated for the latest release of Aura, Emesent’s processing and visualization software. There are often circumstances where users will be getting SLAM slip, particularly when it’s a featureless or more repetitive environment. Aura will now automatically adjust some settings - meaning no guessing or manually checking and tweaking those values. Check out this detailed colorized scan of the exhibition hall at Geo Connect in Singapore. Showcasing Emesent Hovermap's versatility and accuracy, it was taken in a 35-minute walking scan using Hovermap ST-X on a telescopic pole.
