  • ElectraNet has a long-standing commitment to acknowledging and respecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in the construction,  operation, and maintenance of our assets across South Australia and continues to do so by proudly and actively supporting all dimensions of reconciliation. Today, we are thrilled to announce the launch of our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which is our second RAP following the successful implementation of our Reflect RAP. Our Innovate RAP outlines the actions and commitments that we will undertake to gain a deeper understanding of our sphere of influence, strengthen our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and progress strategies to further advance reconciliation outcomes. ElectraNet's commitment to respectful, inclusive, and transparent engagement has been pivotal in shaping a RAP that supports the long-term economic empowerment and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We are immensely proud of what we have achieved to date and look forward to strengthening these commitments through the delivery of our Innovate RAP. The launch of our Innovate RAP was marked by a memorable celebration that honored the rich cultural heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The event featured a Smoking Ceremony and Welcome to Country by Senior Kaurna and Ngarrindjeri man Uncle Moogy Sumner. Uncle Moogy honours his heritage through a spiritual connection to the land by sharing knowledge through music, dance, and education. We were also treated to a soulful performance by the Dusty Feet Mob, whose dance and music beautifully conveyed connection to Country. The unveiling of our Innovate artwork so skillfully done by Gabriele Stengle, a proud Ngarrindjeri, Narungga, and Kaurna woman, was another highlight of the event. • South Australia and the nation’s clean energy transition has taken a huge step forward with Stage 1 of Project EnergyConnect – the new high-voltage transmission line between South Australia and New South Wales - officially turned on. Stage 1 of the interconnector sees 150MW of electricity transfer capacity between Robertstown in South Australia, Buronga in New South Wales and Red Cliffs in Victoria. The critical project enables electricity to be shared directly between the three states for the first time. The interconnector will significantly strengthen the State’s electricity network and will help make power more reliable, affordable and sustainable for South Australian consumers. Transmission is a critical enabler of decarbonisation and the clean energy transition and ElectraNet is proud to have delivered Stage 1 of Project EnergyConnect on time and on budget.

  • Transmission services were restored to the Yorke Peninsula overnight following yesterday’s outage. ElectraNet understands the frustration felt by the impacted parts of the Yorke Peninsula community and thanks them for their patience as our crews worked to restore services as quickly as possible. ElectraNet regrets the impact to the families and businesses as a result of the unplanned power outage. Work to repair the damage began as soon as it was safe to do so and continued until transmission services were restored on Friday night. Friday’s outages were caused by extended dry conditions and the accumulation of dust and salt combined with fog conditions on Friday morning. The network experienced multiple trips which resulted in damage at the Hummocks substation. ElectraNet routinely monitors the network and proactively plans and undertakes maintenance activities to address identified risks such as the accumulation of dust and salt. While the immediate damage has now been repaired, the ongoing build up of dust and salt on transmission equipment will remain a challenge to reliable operation until good rain settles the dust and washes the equipment. In the interim, ElectraNet will continue to deploy alternative targeted measures to mitigate the risk of further outages.

  • ElectraNet experienced multiple faults on the transmission network this morning impacting power supply to the Yorke Peninsula. ElectraNet routinely monitors the network to identify factors that may negatively impact the network and proactively plans and undertakes maintenance activities to address identified risks as required. Due to extended dry conditions and the accumulation of dust and salt combined with fog conditions this morning, the network experienced multiple trips. When moisture levels rise, such as during morning dew, the accumulation of dust and salt can lead to power disruptions. This has resulted in some damage at the Hummocks substation. While the substation is off and the damage is being repaired, additional maintenance has been undertaken to minimise the need for separate future outages. Work to repair the damage is well underway but detailed inspections revealed more damage than originally thought delaying restoration. It is anticipated that transmission services will be restored at approximately 8:00pm.
