The Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA), formed in 1981, is Australia’s leading organisation for diabetes care and education. Our members are healthcare professionals who are committed to providing evidence-based best practice diabetes education to ensure optimal health and wellbeing for all people affected by, and at risk of, diabetes. Diabetes education is a specialty field of health care practice. ADEA offers professional recognition and development programs to support diabetes educators working toward achieving and maintaining Credentialled Diabetes Educator® (CDE) status through a credentialling program. We also support our members and communities through events, resources and learning.

  • The vital role of Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs) and the need for better access to their services were highlighted on ABC Radio Brisbane yesterday. ADEA CEO Susan Davidson and NRL Hall of Famer Steve Renouf joined the program to share their perspectives on the importance of diabetes education and care. Steve spoke about his own journey with type 1 diabetes and that of his children, while Susan highlighted the complexity of self-management and the need for additional subsidised visits to CDEs. 🎧 Listen to the 10-minute segment from around 44 minutes and 25 seconds: https://lnkd.in/d4-43xTg

  • Great connections happening at the IDF World Diabetes Congress! Our President, Ann Bush, and Manager of Education and Professional Services, Natasha Veech, recently met with the President of The Diabetes Association of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the President of the Taiwanese Association of Diabetes Educators (TADE). It's fantastic to see these leading national organisations engaging and sharing their expertise in diabetes care and education on a global platform. These interactions are vital for fostering a united front against diabetes worldwide. Perhaps these discussions even sparked more excitement for IDF WPR 2026 coming to Australia! 😉 #ADEA #IDF2025 #26IDFWPR #Melbourne Diabetes Australia Australian Diabetes Society

  • 📣 In the news | Gunggari and Gubbi Gubbi man Steve Renouf is calling for better access to diabetes education and care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, drawing on his lived experience with type 1 diabetes. In this National Indigenous Times article, Mr Renouf highlights the vital role of Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDEs) in supporting his family’s health and well-being. The story also features insights from ADEA CEO Susan Davidson and CDE Laura Zimmerman, and reinforces the importance of culturally safe care, early intervention, and increasing the number of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander CDEs through programs like the ADEA First Nations CDE Scholarship.
