Why is the UNTOC called the Palermo Convention? 🇺🇳⚖️ Adopted in 2000 in Palermo, Italy, the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC) signaled a turning point in global cooperation to combat organized crime. Once beset by mafia violence throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Palermo has since become a powerful symbol of resilience and international solidarity in the fight against criminal networks. Today, the Palermo Convention remains the cornerstone legal instrument guiding efforts to dismantle organized crime worldwide. #StopOrganizedCrime
