An exceptional place to find yourself
About us
A collection of curated destinations inspired by sustainable adventures. Our first game reserve was built on a drought-ravaged and degraded farmland in Southern Africa’s Eastern Cape region. Carefully restored and nurtured like a new-born, the neglected land slowly came back. And so did the animals. And eventually so did the travellers. The inspiration was sparked. The concept of creating a collection of exceptional, individual lifestyle experiences centred around a common unifying purpose of witnessing and preserving our natural world is what drove Adrian Gardiner’s creation of Mantis. Today, Mantis is a leading, conservation-focused hotel group with curated eco-escapes, eco-lodges and waterways located in Africa and beyond. Sustainable travellers have been enjoying eco-tourism, safaris and adventure travel with Mantis since 2000. Rooted in conservation, Mantis pursues sustainable business practices and develops tourism products that are respectful of the environment and communities in which they operate. We believe our group’s growth and respectability in the marketplace has been founded on our acknowledgement and respect of the environment, hence the acronym for Mantis: Man And Nature Together Is Sustainable.

Few activities epitomise relaxation quite like bird watching, one of the available activities here at Mantis. Look out for BirdLife South Africa’s Bird Of The Year, the Red-billed Oxpecker. This species has a wonderfully mutually beneficial relationship with nature. Not only does this species help its host by removing parasites found on its skin, but those very parasites become its primary food source. Click the link below to discover where you can experience more bird-watching activities. https://bit.ly/3Wjp7Re
