The US is adjusting to “permanent” bird flu. Experts say this is the new normal. Will SA prepare, or be caught off guard? https://lnkd.in/dJ94fHFX
About us
The FairPlay Movement is a not-for-profit initiative with the goal to end the predatory trade practice of dumping worldwide. FairPlay was founded in October 2016 and forms alliances with existing organisations and experts to formulate and promote strategies that could end dumping. These alliance partners are international, currently from the USA, Canada, UK, Ghana and South Africa. The campaign against chicken dumping in SA is FairPlay’s first campaign in South Africa. FairPlay has already managed to unite chicken producers, the SA Poultry Association (SAPA) and the Food and Allied Workers Union (FAWU) to oppose dumping. It has also recruited a panel of local and international experts to assist the government and other involved parties to formulate plans that will work. FairPlay is supported with funds and nonfinancial resources from the private sector. This enables FairPlay to pay for certain actions and in other circumstances utilise its supporters’ resources and assistance.

SA’s agri sector has thrived over the past 30 years, and US trade only makes up 4% of total exports. Losing AGOA would hurt our farmers, but it won’t collapse the industry. What SA really needs is more local jobs and better food affordability. https://lnkd.in/d5gw-M8U

South Africa’s chicken industry has grown by 173% since 1993 to become a R54 billion powerhouse. But challenges remain: unfair imports, rising costs, and economic pressure. We must defend local farmers and ensure more sustainable growth. https://lnkd.in/dpHB5YPS

With AGOA’s renewal uncertain, the SA government is considering a alternative trade agreement with the US. What do you think – should SA negotiate a new deal or push for AGOA renewal? What would you like to see in a new US-SA trade deal? https://lnkd.in/eFekd3YJ

Not a single dose of the bird flu vaccine has been administered to chickens in SA. Farmers can’t afford another outbreak, and neither can consumers. Why is the government not enabling vaccinations? https://bit.ly/4hIPyZq
