Quantum Breakthroughs: Pushing the Frontiers of Computing The future of computing is being shaped today thanks to groundbreaking research from NIST CTL and the collaboration with the Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems (SQMS) Nanofabrication Taskforce. One of the biggest challenges in quantum computing has been qubit coherence – how long quantum bits can maintain their state. Recent innovations from this joint effort have led to record-breaking coherence times of up to 0.6 milliseconds, a significant leap for superconducting quantum technology. Why This Matters: - Faster Problem-Solving: Superconducting qubits are unlocking solutions beyond classical computing capabilities. - Technological Leadership: Keeping the U.S. at the forefront of the global quantum race. - Security & Innovation: Enhancing quantum-safe encryption, AI advancements, and even breakthroughs in healthcare and drug discovery. From new superconducting materials to fabrication techniques, these advancements bring us one step closer to scalable quantum computers. The implications? A transformation in industries from cybersecurity to scientific research. NIST CTL and SQMS are proving that the quantum future is not decades away—it’s happening now. Today is the day! Today #NIST PSCR kicks off its final live event of the First Responder #UAS Wireless Data Gatherer Challenge at Indiana's Muskatatuck Urban Training Center. Best of luck to the 7 teams competing by flying their UAS data collection solutions through test courses and a simulated public safety scenario to prove how effectively they can locate, retrieve and ferry data from sensors in a field to a command station. The first and second place winners will take home $100K and $75K prizes respectively and will speak at the #5x5BellevueWA Conference. On Friday, teams will also have the opportunity to showcase their solutions at #FDIC2025 in Indianapolis. If you're attending #FDIC2025, be sure to join us on 4/11 at 10:30a to hear more about UAS 6.0 and "Drones and Autonomous Systems: Expanding the Fire Service Toolbox". 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/d9H54zxq @ChallengeGov #NIST #PSCR #UAS #PrizeChallenge #FirstResponders #PublicSafety #Drone #AI #IoT #RadioComms #dronecompetition #UASInnovation #FirstResponderTech #DroneTech #PublicSafetyUAS #WirelessDataGathering #AIInEmergencyResponse #DroneChallenges #NextGenResponder #NISTPrizeChallenge #5x5in25 #5x5BellevueWA #FDIC2025

CTL’s Smart Connected Systems Division has released open-source software for integrating ns-3 network models with external software and hardware to create high-fidelity simulations of complex systems. ns-3 is a network simulator for modeling user equipment such as phones and wireless devices, networking protocols, and the channels used to send information between devices. NIST developed this software to research how vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications can improve automated vehicle performance as part of its automated vehicles program. For this program, an automated development vehicle was connected to a network of simulated vehicles and infrastructure using this software to adjust driving behavior based on received network messages. Although developed for research into automated vehicles, the software is generic and can be used for any network model across any research domain.
