World Health Day offers an important moment for reflection as we continue to strive for a healthier world. 🌏 This year at the McKinsey Health Institute, we have seen inspiring momentum following the launch of the blueprint for action towards closing the women's health gap in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, engaged with senior business leaders as we highlighted the $12 trillion economic case for prioritizing holistic employee health in the workplace, and shared how interoperable digital health systems are setting an example for ensuring better outcomes for patients. Get all the insights and data: https://lnkd.in/eNHGPzBy We are looking forward to continuing to collaborate with our ecosystem partners towards positive impact in underinvested areas of health. There is plenty of work to be done, and MHI is exploring key topics like addressing healthcare worker shortages to strengthen global health systems and economies, investing in mental health to help reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases, actions stakeholders can take to enable better metabolic health for all, and more. We wish you good health - today and everyday - and invite you to connect with us for more updates: https://lnkd.in/eN3usF5a #WorldHealthDay #GlobalHealth
About us
This is a decisive moment in the history of human health. Over the last century, society has made incredible progress in extending life. But while life expectancy has increased, so has the amount of time spent in moderate to poor health. And significant inequities persist both across and within countries. It’s time to set a more ambitious aspiration. An aspiration for everyone on the planet to add years to their lives and life to their years. Humanity mobilized against COVID-19 at a speed and scale previously unseen. While far from perfect, our successes should inspire us to challenge what we think is possible. At its best, our response to COVID-19 demonstrates that when resources and motivation coalesce, scientific breakthroughs, and large-scale behavior change are possible in very short periods of time. The McKinsey Health Institute (MHI) is an enduring, non-profit-generating entity within the firm. It was founded on the conviction that, over the next decade, humanity could add as much as 45 billion extra years of higher-quality life (roughly six years per person on average—and substantially more in some countries and populations). MHI’s mission is to catalyze the actions needed across continents, sectors, and communities to realize this possibility.

One in four people globally experience symptoms of burnout. Despite this high prevalence, the condition remains misunderstood, in part because it can look different from person to person. McKinsey & Company alum Brankele Frank sat down with McKinsey Health Institute’s Jacqui Brassey, PhD, MA, MAfN 🎗️ (née Schouten) to uncover how stress is not “simply something psychological, but a fundamentally biological mechanism with physical consequences.” Read the full interview to learn how harnessing the power of emotional intelligence and other factors can help avoid burnout: https://lnkd.in/dJaSEwKK

Investing in digital technologies has the potential to transform healthcare, but we may only reap the biggest benefits when the tools are interoperable — in other words, interacting well with each other. The benefits of digital interoperability include increasing patient access to care and boosting health worker capacity, in turn, improving overall health system performance. McKinsey Health Institute, as part of the Exemplars in Global Health program’s Digital Health Exemplars consortium, highlights some of the ways countries have approached their health systems’ interoperability.
