You can't get a soda or a snack from them, but new vending machines are bringing #innovation and #safety staff in unique ways! The vending machines are making it easier for staff to get personal protective equipment. The machines are offering closer access to #PPE for staff, letting them use work time more efficiently. We love finding ways to increase safety and continue our scientific mission!

#LeadershipInAction One of our own visited Nashville in January to take part in addressing statewide problems and opportunities. Clarice Phelps, an #isotope researcher, made the trip as part of the Leadership Tennessee Signature Program Class XI. The program fosters collaborative, non-partisan dialogue on Tennessee's future. The group visited: 🏛 The State Capitol, where they participated in a Q&A with Gov. Bill Lee 📖 Nashville Public Library 🏫 American Baptist College 🏟 New Titans Stadium 📰 The Tennessean 💼 Alliance Bernstein 👏 Thank you to Clarice for representing Oak Ridge National Laboratory and contributing to this vital conversation!

#PATENT ALERT 🎉 #Isotope researcher Debjani Pal had a patent approved in January. U.S. Patent 12,203,927, “Methods for immunoregulation by modulating Plasminogen-apple-nematode (PAN) domain-containing proteins,” was approved Jan. 31. The patent, which Pal co-invented along with Wellington Muchero, Carly Shanks and Kuntal De, could help lead to new avenues in 🔬 disease research. Learn more about Debjani and her work here --> https://lnkd.in/eTEekiu2 Congratulations, Debjani!!

The first cohort of the Chemical Radiation Technician pathway, a joint initiative betweenOak Ridge National Laboratory and Pellissippi State Community College, crossed the finish line! This unique program, part of Pellissippi’s General Technology curriculum, provides students with hands-on experience and a direct path into a critical #STEM field. Among the first graduates: 🔬 Jon Rowland ⚛️ Jared Dowell Clarice Phelps, a major leader in the program and #isotope scientist, gave the keynote address. This pathway is more than just a degree—it’s a launchpad for future experts in #nuclearscience and #radiochemistry. Congratulations to these graduates for paving the way! 🚀

Check out the incredible work our #isotope staff are doing! Hunter Andrews was quoted in this U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) release about #moltensalts.
Oak Ridge National Laboratory researchers just developed a new way to monitor molten salts in real time. The lab used a laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy technique to create a microplasma in a molten salt aerosol stream. The light emitted from the plasma was rapidly analyzed using spectrometers to track the aerosols and gases. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4ic4mA2

We love cheering on #innovations, big and small, here at Oak Ridge National Laboratory! An #isotopes staff member, Zach Burns, saw a need for efficiency and made it happen. Burns designed specialized storage lockers for targets, nicknamed 'spiders', that are used in HFIR for the plutonium-238 production program 🛰️ . The lockers make work easier for production engineers and techs in HFIR. Thank you, Zach!
