The Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management (FECM) invests in research, development, demonstration, and deployment projects to reduce emissions from fossil energy production and use and key industrial processes, while strengthening U.S. energy and critical minerals security. FECM is committed to improving the economic and environmental conditions of communities, retaining, and creating good-paying jobs, and supporting domestic energy, industrial production, and manufacturing across our nation. FECM has approximately 1,000 scientists, engineers, technicians, and administrative staff. Its headquarters offices are in downtown Washington, D.C. and Germantown, MD. The organization also includes the National Energy Technology Laboratory, the only government-owned and government-operated lab, with offices in Morgantown, WV, Pittsburgh, PA, Sugar Land, TX, Albany, OR, and Anchorage, AK.

As a part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)'s extensive research portfolio, several projects have demonstrated promising advancements in #gasification technology. One notable example is the FECM-funded Wabash Valley Resources project based in West Terre Haute, Indiana.
