Policy momentum underscores the importance of a power grid that can meet rising demands from electrification and manufacturing. Composite core conductors, supplied by established and trusted manufacturers like Epsilon Composite, represent one of the most effective and field-proven solutions available to support this directive. These advanced conductors, or high-performance conductors (HPCs), can double current-carrying capacity compared to traditional steel core designs, which still serve as the standard across many parts of the grid. They also deliver superior sag performance under thermal load, reduce wildfire risk from vegetation contact, enhance storm resilience through exceptional tensile strength, and increase overall network efficiency by cutting line losses by up to 40 percent. While widely adopted in high-demand markets like India, composite core conductors remain underutilized in the United States. Their proven value in extending the life of existing infrastructure, relieving congestion, and strengthening grid resilience makes them an ideal fit for U.S. transmission operators facing rising load growth and reliability challenges. As the grid continues to evolve, so must the materials we use to build it. Composite core conductors are a field-proven, scalable technology ready to meet the demands of both today and tomorrow. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/e9kpBsDz #GridReliability #CompositeConductors #EnergySecurity #DOE

  • ⚡ Did you know that composite core conductors were invented by W. Brandt Goldsworthy in the 90’s ? M. Goldsworthy passed away on April 3, 2003, and today, we wish to pay our tribute to this visionary engineer who paved the way for a new generation of sustainable and efficient conductors. Nicknamed “the father of composites” and one of the inventors of the pultrusion process, M. Goldsworthy could see as early as the 90’s the potential of improving overhead lines thanks to the pultrusion process. He was the first to come up with the idea to replace the traditional steel core in High Voltage cables with a composite core, and in 1998, his team laid out the foundation for the first generation of composite cables. Epsilon’s founder Stephane Lull and our VP Laurent GUITTON had the opportunity to work with M. Goldsworthy in California in the 90’s. Based on his work, Epsilon Composite pioneered carbon fiber #pultrusion and Epsilon Cable developed composite core conductors such as the #ECRC, which is now widely used by T&D operators worldwide looking for a reliable and durable solution to upgrade overhead lines. ➡ Learn more: www.epsilon-cable.com #highvoltage #composites #HVCRC #EpsilonCable #CFRP #Tribute

Advanced Transmission Technologies Bill, SB422, Passes Indiana Legislature 🎉 This afternoon Indiana unanimously passed a bill to encourage the deployment of advanced transmission technologies that will help squeeze more capacity out of the grid to meet growing energy demand. Indiana joins Utah in passing legislation on ATTs during the 2025 session. See my full quote below: “S.B. 422 offers a crucial opportunity to strengthen Indiana’s electric grid by quickly increasing capacity, efficiency, and reliability through cost-saving transmission upgrades,” said Carter Harms, an officer with The Pew Charitable Trusts’ energy modernization project. “As Indiana experiences increased demand for energy, this legislation will encourage the use of cost-effective, ready-to-deploy solutions to boost power and make the grid more resilient. Pew thanks Senator Eric Koch for his leadership in sponsoring this important legislation and encourages Governor Mike Braun to quickly sign it when it reaches his desk.” https://lnkd.in/ehKnzu2j

From airplanes to power lines: why composite materials are the future ✈️⚡ Epsilon Composite is proud to be a Tier 1 supplier for Airbus, makers of cutting-edge aircraft like the A350. And let’s not forget the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, an engineering marvel built with over 50% composites. If composite materials can safely and efficiently soar through turbulence at 40,000 feet around the globe, why wouldn’t we trust them to revolutionize other critical infrastructure? Steel-core conductors? They’re the rotary phones of the grid, woefully outdated for modern demands and not exactly what you’d call “future-proof.” Composite core conductors are here, and they’re better in every way: 💪🏻 Stronger: Carbon fiber composites are twice the strength of steel 🪶Lighter: Carbon fiber composites are ~70% lighter than steel ⚡Efficient: Up to 40% reduction in line losses 🌳Save the Trees: Superior clearance and minimal sag prevent vegetation contact, reducing wildfire risks 🔨 Low Maintenance, High Performance: A corrosion-resistant composite means fewer inspections, replacements, and headaches. The same innovation that has transformed aviation is now available to the energy sector. The question is: When will we make the transition? #EnergyEfficiency #GridModernization #CompositeTechnology
