NVIDIA says it plans to manufacture some AI chips in the U.S. The company has commissioned over a million square feet of manufacturing space in Arizona and Texas to build and test AI chips. Nvidia's CEO, Jensen Huang, said that adding American manufacturing helps meet the growing demand for AI chips and strengthens the supply chain. Mass production at the new facilities is expected to ramp up in the next 12-15 months, with plans to produce up to half a trillion dollars of AI infrastructure in the U.S. within four years. Micron Technology has started mass production of its fifth-generation HBM3E chips for NVIDIA. These chips will be used in Nvidia's upcoming AI accelerator, the Blackwell Ultra. ResetData has chosen Nokia to support the development of AI data centers in Australia. Nokia's technology, including the 7750 SR-1x router, will help facilitate high-speed data transfers and reduce energy consumption in these centers. ResetData, backed by Centuria Capital Group, plans to deploy these AI facilities across Australia, starting in Melbourne. Karl Kloppenborg, CTO at ResetData, said they needed a partner committed to sustainability and capable of scaling operations nationally, which they found in Nokia. Vach Kompella from Nokia said the company is prepared to meet the data demands of AI infrastructure as they expand into digital infrastructure markets. US regulators have denied a rehearing request regarding an Amazon data center's energy pact with Talen Energy. The decision blocks the data center from increasing its power use beyond 300 megawatts from Talen's nuclear plant in Pennsylvania. The U.S. Senate has introduced a draft bill proposing emissions fees for data centers supporting blockchain and AI operations. The "Clean Cloud Act" aims to reduce the environmental impact of energy-intensive computing by setting emissions standards for large data centers and crypto mining facilities. Facilities that exceed the proposed emissions thresholds would face financial penalties, with fees starting at $20 per ton of CO2 equivalent.
