Are Your Employees Engaged?
Who are Engaged employees: Engaged employees, exhibit passion in their work, purpose, pride, and energy. They take on extra tasks and consider their organization’s strategic objectives as equal to or greater than their own objectives (Schaufebuel, 2013)
Is the lack of Engaged Employees a Big Workforce Problem? How many employees are not engaged? Close to 51% according to a recent Gallup poll (Sherman, 2016). It is important for any organization to identify those disengaged and then design ways to engage them.
Engaged Employees buy-in; Engaged workers, though, have bought into what the organization is about and are trying to make a difference (Sorenson, 2013)
To Engage Employees, Happiness is not the goal, instead, add meaning and appreciation for the Employees: Put away those ping pong tables. Happiness is not the goal, meaning is. They (employees) want to understand their place in the bigger picture and know what they do matters and is appreciated. (Jarmillo & Richardson, 2016)
What to Measure to Gauge Employees Engagement?
1. Are the same people volunteering?
2. Can employees articulate what your organization’s strategy is?
3. Are your employees frequently absent?
4. Can your employees tell you where they fit into the organization and why they are important?
In our upcoming book School Culture Fit, Dr. Trammel and I provide a framework on how to engage your employees. For a workshop or speaking engagement inquiries, feel free to contact me at mns50@georgetown.edu
