Are you stuck?

Are you stuck?

Are you?

So many people feel stuck in a dead end job. Toxic leadership. Mundane tasks. Lack of inspiration. Is this you? It doesn't have to be. Ask yourself this question. Why do I allow others the ability to manipulate my emotions and feeling of self worth in my position?

The foundation to this "crazy eight pattern" lies within you. You may not invite it, but you allow this circuitous motion in your life and it probably filters into your life in general.

Let me give you an example. Your manager calls you into her office and she sings your praise. You feel uplifted. You become high off the feedback and walk back to you office with a bounce in your step. You are on top of the world!

The next day, you do your job, follow the processes, and deliver accordingly. The same manager that gave you this amazing feeling yesterday, just threw you under the bus to the C-Suite; taking no accountability for her lack of strategic direction. You are now wounded, defeated, and angry. In just 24-hours, you moved through the "crazy eight pattern" from top to bottom. How do you get back to the top again? You wait for the next quick snippet of recognition, until it inadvertently turns into a pitfall that brings you back to the other side; and around and around you go. Where and when does it stop?

When you recognize the pattern. Look for things that you can change, while focusing on what serves you the best. Then, put one foot out of the circle and start moving in a different direction. That may mean having a direct conversation with your manager expressing the issues at hand. For some, it may be seeking something new.

The more we stay in this pattern, the greater the emotional ramifications that cost you a bunch; time, talent, relationships, treasure to name a few.

If you are experiencing this pattern in your life or career, start to think about how it got there. What is in your power to change? What human needs are being served? How is this meeting your needs?

Then, make some life enhancing decisions toward change. Keep your eye focused on your greatness and what serves you and your life in a positive way. Change is good. Change is easy when you take it into your own hands.
