Work From Home Idea / Best Practices

Work From Home Idea / Best Practices

Hey Guys,

In the midst of this lock down situation due to COVID-19 outbreak where most of us are working from home, I would like to share my idea of working from home.

1. Choose your System

  • First step in making your "Work From Home" schedule work for you is to define a system that suits you.
  • The most classic system would be to have a "TO DO LIST" to arrange your daily Goals / Tasks.
  • It has to be something that you will actually use such as a Diary, an Excel Sheet, a Notepad or Sticky Notes.

2. Minimize Distraction

  • Since you are working from home there's TV, Music System or Family Members too. A quick 15 mins coffee break can turn into wasting 3 hours.
  • Take steps to eliminate common distractions such as telling your family that you are unavailable for certain span of time each day.

3. Allow Flexibility

  • Since you are working from home, things are always going to come up that you haven't planned for.
  • Internet / WIFI not working, VPN / Skype / Outlook, etc. stopped working due to some system update or may be your kids are giving you a hard time.
  • You should have some floating work time here to achieve business continuity by informing your colleagues / team mates to take over or cover for you in the meantime so that you can deal with your stuff and get back to work later.

4. Fun At Work

  • Fun at work is an important aspect to keep you motivated and feel connected to your team mates, especially in our current #lockdown situation.
  • Have a 15 mins Skype Call or a Group Chat with your team mates. It doesn't have to be only about work.
  • It can be anything that makes you guys bring up some smiles and spread happiness.
  • This will help to keep up the positive vibe and reduce a bit of stress.

 5. Stay Fit

  • Working from home means being seated on a chair for long duration.
  • Sitting in front of computer for hours can cause back pain, tightness in your neck, shoulders, back etc. especially since most of us don't have ideal ergonomic set-up.
  • Take a few minutes after every 2 hours each day and walk around.
  • Walking around and spending 5-10 mins for some stretching exercise can not only reduce pain and tension in the body, but allow your eyes to rest.

6. Keep Calm and Keep Learning

  • If you are one of those who has been spending minimum 2-3 hours over daily commute then this is the best time to make use of it to learn something new.
  • You can join an online course or watch free online video tutorials to up skill yourself.

Hope you guys like it :)

Cheers,
