why do you need a growth strategist

Business growth is arguably one of the most important parts of a business, a lot of companies fail to realize that this position needs somebody who has some specific skill sets tailored to engineer this growth. A lot of times organizations mistake this for a growth marketer, however, growth marketing is just one of the tools for executing a growth strategy. For you to know why you need a growth manager you first need to understand who a growth manager is and what his roles and deliverables are.

A growth manager is somebody responsible for systematically engineering the growth of a business through informed guesses which are hypotheses while also making sure they deliver on their value proposition. Growth is more of a science than an art, we analyze problems through data, and come up with possible solutions to each problem we then find a low-cost way to experiment. once we find that it has solved the problem we then systemize and scale it up.

Why do you need a growth manager?

You need somebody to be responsible for creating growth strategies, executing growth plans, and most importantly protecting the company to focus on value proposition delivery.

A lot of times a company believes this job can be done by a general manager, however, a general manager is more interested in the smooth running of the company's daily operations while a growth manager looks and the overall picture using all the moving parts of the business to achieve growth.

When an organization eventually decides to get a growth manager they are usually looking from either a sales or marketing bias, a product basis, or an operations bias because they want to improve sales to get more inflow. Now the issue is that a growth manager is not a marketer or a product manager, or an operations manager rather he is in between these three roles working closely with each of them to create a growth engine that is sustainable and can be scaled up.

There are a couple of processes used for business growth engineering like the customer journey approach the funnel frameworks and the growth process.

Check out my next post to get more understanding of the different approaches and how they work together or independently.
