What's the Difference between LCD and LED Screen?

When we talk about the themes of LED display, you have to figure out the terms LCD and LED. For most of us, We will tell the differences of these two types of display in terms of performance, image quality, durability, or technology.

Here I will show you the differences between LCDs and LED displays.

Light source: LEDs themselves emit light. Each pixel in an LED display is an LED that lights up to create the image. However, LCDs don't create their own light. They use a backlight, traditionally fluorescent lamps but increasingly LEDs, to illuminate liquid crystals that control the lights passe through.

Image Quality: Generally LED offers superior contrast ratios due to the ability of individual LEDs to completely turn off for true blacks. This can lead to deeper blacks and more vibrant colors. But for LCD, its contrast can be good, but not as good as LED. Blacks may appear grayish due to some backlight bleed-through. Viewing angles can also be narrowed compared to LEDs.

Energy Efficiency: Usually LED is more energy-efficient, especially newer models with LED backlights. LEDs themselves use less power than fluorescent lamps. Older LCDs with fluorescent backlights can be less energy-efficient. Newer models with LED backlights are better, but still may use more power than LEDs.

Applications: LED are Often used for large displays like billboards, video walls, and TVs due to their brightness, high contrast, and wide viewing angles. LCD are mostly used in laptops, computer monitors, and smaller TVs. They can be thinner and lighter than LED displays, making them suitable for portable devices.

Cost: Often LED is more expensive than LCD displays, especially for larger sizes. Typically LCD is more affordable, particularly for smaller displays.

As you see, the main differences between LCD and LED displays are mainly in the back-lighting. LED technology has many advantages on performance, image quality, and safety, among other aspects.

Therefore, if you wanna the best picture quality, contrast, and viewing angles, LED is a great choice. If you think more about portability, affordability, and a good overall picture, then choose LCD.
