Hot off the press
The news & the numbers for HR & Internal Comms this month.
Is your well-being strategy working? ⛑️
The record lows in employee health and morale of late 2023 saw widespread HR prioritisation of employee wellbeing over the course of this year. Yet these changes ‘have yet to make a difference in the workforce as a whole,’ argues a recent article from Gallup. The potential gains are huge; amongst other benefits, workers who strongly agree their organisation cares about their wellbeing are 53% less likely to be on the job hunt, and 73% less likely to experience frequent burnout. Yet per Gallup ’s survey, less than a quarter of workers feel that way.
What your peers are focusing on this year 👀
A great ‘in case you missed it’ as we go into the new year: Gartner ’s 2025 priorities for HR leaders. This year, the firm has zeroed in on five key focus areas: manager development; organisational culture, strategic workforce planning, change management, and optimising HR technology. Whether it’s that 73% of HR leaders say that employees are experiencing change fatigue or that more than half can’t measure the ROI of their tech investments, the full report is packed with insights to help guide you in the year ahead.
GenAI: Helping HR with the human touch 🤖
There’s a common argument that AI will become a key enabler within the HR function by ‘freeing up time for more strategic work’. But a key question is rarely answered: How much time? Well, Bain & Company ’s Generative AI Workforce Impact Explorer has one answer for us: 15-20% across the entire HR function, and up to 35% time saved in HR operations roles. Alongside its time savings estimates, the article provides a great breakdown of where generative AI can be used to automate certain tasks across HR, HR operations, and Centre of Excellence teams.
How to address politics and dissent in the workplace 🧑🏼🚒
A recent Gartner survey looked into the workplace impacts of widespread political polarisation, finding that a quarter of employees have witnessed arguments, name-calling, unfair treatment and other counterproductive behaviours directed at a colleague based on their political beliefs. Unsurprisingly, half of the employees surveyed reported feeling uncomfortable discussing political or social issues at work, yet just 16% said that their org gives managers the tools they need to navigate social and political issues in the workplace. With the firm predicting increased division in the wake of the US election, the article also offers three actions that HR leaders can take to minimise disruption.
