What Metrics Actually Matter for Preventing Injuries?

In sports, we have never had access to more data than we do today. But when it comes to injury prevention, more data isn't the goalsmarter data is.

At Darefore, we focus on the metrics that matter — the ones that reveal risk before an injury strikes. Whether you're a runner, a cyclist, or a high-performance athlete, here are the core indicators we trust:

Asymmetry in movement A slight imbalance between limbs can signal underlying compensation patterns — a red flag in both runners and cyclists that often leads to overuse injuries.

Ground Contact Time (GCT) (for runners) Pedal Stroke Efficiency (for cyclists) In running, changes in GCT can indicate fatigue or inefficiency. In cycling, poor stroke symmetry or inconsistent force application can stress the knees, hips, and lower back.

Joint Load & Force Distribution Runners experience impact — cyclists experience sustained torque. In both cases, smart sensors help us track joint stress and identify risks early — whether it’s poor landing technique or suboptimal bike fit.

Fatigue Signatures Fatigue hides in form: uneven pedal pressure, decreased stride symmetry, trunk instability.

Deceleration & Load Transitions Sudden braking, sprinting, or downshifting loads — whether on a track or a climb — can silently stress muscle groups. We monitor these moments to prevent the buildup that leads to injury.

Bonus for cyclists: We've seen that pedal balance + upper body stability can often reveal fit issues or compensations long before the athlete feels discomfort. This is the power of smart data — it sees what the body can’t always feel.

The takeaway? Don’t just collect data. Listen to what your data is actually telling you. Your body speaks — and smart data helps you understand it.
