Welsh Tech Leaders Unite for ‘Gray Rhino’ Event
Technology giants from across Wales will come together for the latest ‘Gray Rhino’ event on March 9th; an initiative developed by national recruitment brand, RhinoRecruitment.com, and leading law firm, Darwin Gray.
As the third instalment of the Gray Rhino event series, the meet-up will again unfold at the famous Tramshed; a Cardiff hotspot for tech talent and innovation.
Entitled ‘CTO Question Time’, the event is centred on sharing knowledge, giving attendees the opportunity to pick the brains of some true tech gurus.
Delving into the minds of three of the most influential tech leaders in Wales, questions will be fired at Leon James (CTO and Co-Founder of ucreate Wales), Craig Marvelley (VP of Engineering at Bipsync) and Dr Rafal Goralski (Head of Software Engineering at Codiance).
The open QA session will be complemented by lightning talks which will provide insight into the speakers’ areas of expertise.
Leon James will discuss translating a business idea to an MVP and managing technical debt; a struggle many Welsh businesses face when in their infancy.
Dr Rafal Goralski will explore the subject of ‘Development Quality’, offering invaluable advice to Wales’ growing startup community.
“Software quality can make or break a start-up, and alongside commercial model is a key factor impacting its chances for success. I have experienced this personally in my previous startups, and in my role as a software consultant have seen this affect several businesses, tech entrepreneurs, dev teams and their customers. I will show you why it is important, how it may affect you and your company, and explain what it is and how it can be achieved on the most fundamental level, from both the commercial and development perspective” he says.
Craig Marvelley will examine the importance of selecting, training and retaining a high-performance tech team, drawing on his past experiences when doing so. Giving us a flavour of his talk, he says:
“I manage the rapidly growing software development team at Bipsync. I’d like to share our experiences in hiring and training a talented team: attracting the right people, designing an interview process, and providing effective onboarding, training and professional development. These elements were key in our recent expansion, and we learned several lessons that will be interesting to anyone in a similar situation” he comments.
Mohammed Ahmed, Director of RhinoRecruitment.com’s IT division, is thrilled to be working with these expert speakers to put on yet another great event.
“Gray Rhino is all about sharing knowledge and experiences so I am so pleased that Leon, Craig and Rafal have agreed to an open QA session as I cannot think of a better way of passing on their knowledge and experiences to up and coming CTO’s and also their peers” he says.
Equally as pleased to be involved is Tegen Quinn, Senior Associate at Darwin Gray.
“Darwin Gray is delighted to be partners of the Gray Rhino initiative, building a community around topical, tech-focussed event. At Darwin Gray, we work with both up-and-coming and established tech companies and we’re proud to support such a vital part of the Welsh economy. We are grateful to our fantastic speakers, past and present, who have generously shared their valuable time and knowledge with us and our Gray Rhino community. We’re looking forward to the next event and what the rest of the year has in store!”
