Turtle Walk to Progress: Setting Goals That Matter
Dear Readers,
Life is a journey of countless steps. As a mompreneur, caregiver, and professional, I’ve learned that no matter how slow those steps may feel—what matters most is that you keep moving forward. The path to achieving meaningful milestones, whether personal or professional, doesn’t demand perfection; it demands consistency, clarity, and a commitment to growth.
Writing my first book, Beyond the 24-Hour Day, was one of the most challenging yet rewarding experiences of my life. Balancing my roles as a mom, caregiver, and professional while pouring my heart into this project wasn’t easy. There were moments of doubt and days when progress felt like a "turtle walk." But step by step, with clear goals and a relentless focus, I made it happen. Today, I’m proud to share that Beyond the 24-Hour Day has achieved milestones I could have only dreamed of:
These achievements achieving the Top 25 under "New Release" wouldn’t have been possible without your unwavering support and encouragement. Thank you for being part of this journey. I am filled with gratitude as we celebrate these milestones together, and I look forward to many more with you by my side.
Why Goals Matter: The Power of the Turtle Walk
Whether you’re chasing a dream, navigating a career, or building a family, goals provide focus and direction. They help us define what truly matters and give us the clarity to allocate our time and energy wisely. But here’s the key: success isn’t about quick fixes or shortcuts. It’s about setting short-term, actionable milestones that align with long-term, purposeful goals.
Here are the principles that have shaped my journey. I hope they resonate with you and inspire your path forward:
1. Adopt a Growth Mindset
Every hurdle is an opportunity to learn. A growth mindset allows you to see challenges as stepping stones rather than roadblocks. Remember, it’s not about how fast you move but that you keep growing and adapting.
2. Clarify Your Purpose and Vision
Ask yourself: What is my ultimate goal? Your vision will serve as your North Star, guiding your steps even when the journey feels tough.
3. Understand Your “Why” and Your Pain Points
Why does this goal matter to you? What problem are you solving? Identifying your “why” and addressing the pain points that hold you back are crucial to creating meaningful progress.
4. Consider the Cost of Inaction
Pause and reflect: If I don’t take action, what will my life look like in 1, 5, or 10 years? Often, the fear of staying stagnant can motivate us to take that first, bold step forward.
5. Evaluate Your Context
What are the unique demands of your life right now? Understanding your context will help you set realistic expectations and goals that work for your situation.
6. Lean on Your Support System
Who are the people you can trust for advice, encouragement, or a helping hand? Building an army of advocates will keep you grounded and supported.
7. Set Incremental and Long-Term Goals
Break your vision into actionable steps. Celebrate every small win—it’s these incremental milestones that build the momentum for long-term success.
8. Consistency is Key
Even small, disciplined actions every day compound into significant progress over time. Show up for yourself, even on the days it feels hard.
9. Practice Self-Reflection and Self-Kindness
Take time to reflect on your progress without judgment. Be kind to yourself, knowing that every day is a fresh opportunity to move forward.
10. Celebrate the Journey
Life isn’t just about the destination; it’s about the lessons, growth, and connections you build along the way. Celebrate the effort you’re putting in—it’s worth it.
What to Watch Out For: Common Pitfalls
Gratitude for You
These milestones—this journey—would not have been possible without you. Your encouragement, belief, and support have fueled my determination. Let’s continue to walk this path together, step by step, milestone by milestone. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that progress, no matter how small, is still progress.
