The truth about Google Ads & Crypto
Recently I've been getting a lot of messages of "Crypto can advertise on Google Ads now!" and unfortunately its simply unjustified "hype". So for those in my network that are interested, I wanted to explain what's actually happened to Google Ad Policy regarding Cryptocurrency.
Possibly due to the lack of digital marketers / advertisers with experience in the Crypto industry to fact check with, but there's a lot of click bait-y headlines by journalist making news around something that already existed.
It is not a "New" policy but simply an update to the existing policy that was already in place since 2018, just a couple months after Googles initial ban when it back traced on its original decision.
You always have been (pre Google's June update announcement) and can still only advertise crypto in the USA and Japan with a certification from Google. However, the newest verification voids all previous ones, meaning advertisers will have to re-submit an application for certification.
What did actually change?
At the time of writing, the global crypto community is still very cut off from advertising opportunities with huge missed potential, but hopefully this is just one step in the in the right direction for big tech to catch up with the fast moving world of Crypto.
