TIP FOR THE WEEK - Mulching
Do you feel that you are spending allot of time and energy on raking up your autumn leave in your garden?
Did you know that the autumn leave fall is nature’s way of mulching the soil and putting back much needed nutrients? Mulching is a technique copied from nature by horticulturist around the word in which numerous materials can be used to apply as a “blanket” on your soil. This technique locks in moisture which in turn contributes towards water saving; it also keeps the soil and roots cool during summer and regulates the temperature in winter.
Next time when you feel the need to rake up leaves remember you are working against mother nature; whom knows best.
Suitable mulching material:
1) Leaves
2) Well-rotted compost
3) Bark chips/ Macadamia nut shells
4) Peanut shells/ Pine needles for roses
5) Commercial mulch
6) Hay in veggie gardens
