Think Big, Plant Bigger: How Taashii plans to Restore Biodiversity in Big Cities, One Forest at a Time

Each year, the world loses nearly 10 million hectares of forest—an expanse greater than the size of Iceland. With every felled tree, we edge closer to a biodiversity collapse so profound that 137 species vanish daily. This is not just a crisis of nature; it is a crisis of human existence. The desert encroaches, floods engulf cities, and the very air we breathe turns toxic. We do not stand at the edge of a distant apocalypse—we are already within it.

The freedom to thrive—for people, for ecosystems, and for our planet—is under threat. Communities worldwide are grappling with the urgent need to act. This where Taashii aims to spark a difference.

What Is Taashii?

Taashii, meaning "freedom" in Wayuunakii, is a biodiversity restoration initiative with a bold mission: to empower communities with the tools and knowledge to build lasting climate resilience while reconnecting with nature. Inspired by indigenous wisdom and cutting-edge techniques like the Miyawaki Method, Taashii is designed to create ecosystems that are not only sustainable but transformative for the people and environments they touch.

The Power of Community

At the heart of Taashii is the belief that meaningful change begins at the community level. By working hand-in-hand with local leaders, schools, and organizations, we aim to cultivate a sense of ownership and responsibility for the ecosystems we restore. This isn’t just about planting trees; it’s about fostering a mindset where every individual recognizes their role in protecting the planet.

Each Taashii project is tailored to the unique needs of the community it serves, ensuring that our climate resilience structures are effective, sustainable, and deeply rooted in local culture. By involving people in every step—from planning to planting—we create a shared sense of purpose and pride that lasts far beyond the project itself.

Playing a crucial step in the development of Taashii, beVisioneers: The Mercedes-Benz Fellowship has provided solid support in educational, coaching and community aspects. This project stands where it does today thanks to my fellow Visioneers, this is an experience I seek to bring forth to all Taashii ambassadors, advocates, clients and investors in due time.

Why This Mission Matters

For me, Taashii is personal. Growing up surrounded by the beauty of Latin America, I witnessed firsthand the delicate balance of nature—and how quickly it can be disrupted. The forests, rivers, and wildlife that define our region are not just resources; they are sacred ecosystems that hold the stories and futures of generations to come.

Taashii represents a promise: to restore what has been lost, to protect what remains, and to empower communities to lead the way toward a more resilient, harmonious world.

How Taashii Leads the Way

Our approach combines tradition and innovation:

  1. The Miyawaki Method: We utilize this fast-growing reforestation technique to create dense, self-sustaining forests in a fraction of the time traditional methods take.
  2. Education and Empowerment: Taashii prioritizes knowledge-sharing, equipping communities with the skills to maintain and expand their climate resilience efforts.
  3. Scalability: While starting in Latin America, our vision is global. The challenges of climate change know no borders, and neither should the solutions.

A Call to Action

Taashii isn’t just a project; it’s a movement. It’s a call to everyone who believes that restoring ecosystems means restoring freedom—for the planet and for ourselves. Stay tuned for coming updates and be ready to join the community.

Let’s plant the seeds of freedom—and watch them grow. Stay tuned
