Technology and Human Care: The NHS's new AI physiotherapy initiative
The future of physiotherapy is here
The NHS has announced that the launch of their first ever AI-run physiotherapy clinic will take place this year. The platform is said to provide same-day automated video appointments with a digital physiotherapist via an app that reacts in real time to patient’s input. It is the first platform of its kind to be approved by the health regulator, the Care Quality Commission, as a registered healthcare provider with the aim being to reduce waiting times, improve access, and deliver personalised care¹.
pirkx supports the NHS's digital transformation
At pirkx, we are always looking for ways to improve the health and wellbeing of our members and their families. That's why we are delighted to hear that the NHS is embracing contemporary technology to update one of Britain's most valued services. We believe that AI can offer many benefits for physiotherapy, such as faster diagnosis, tailored treatment plans, and ultimately quicker outcomes.
pirkx values human to human physiotherapy
While we are excited about the potential of AI, we also recognise that it cannot replace the human touch and the emotional support that physiotherapists provide. Having spoken to many of our members, we know that many prefer to have face-to-face sessions with qualified professionals who can listen to their concerns, answer their questions, and motivate them to achieve their goals. We hope that this change in fact ease this, freeing up human resources and enable physiotherapists to focus on more comprehensively on complex and urgent cases which require their intervention.

Ultimately, here at pirkx, we commend the NHS’s decision to embrace modern technology to update and modernise such a valued but currently outmoded and overstretched service². We encourage them to explore more avenues through which technology can ease the concerns of patients, administrators and healthcare professionals. We look forward to seeing how the NHS will integrate AI and human care in this case and how this will shape the future relationship between the service and new technologies.
